Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 2 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

On March 8, 1998, the “Backyard Rocker” took to the airwaves as a one-hour local and regional music program on Q94. A year later, the program was expanded to two hours. Ten years later, we celebrated a decade of “Backyard Rocker” on the air with a three-hour gala special! We celebrated show highlights from the first ten years, as well as some highlights from the past year. And since Felix & the Hurricanes were the very first band guests to appear on the program on March 22, 1998, in “Backyard Rocker” tradition, we welcomed the Hurricanes to the Q94 studios once again for the anniversary party! The Hurricanes gave us a preview of some studio songs from their upcoming third CD, expected out later this year; and lead ‘Cane, singer and guitarist Felix Kos, performed a solo acoustic rendition of the Allman Brothers’ “Little Martha” in tribute to area musician John Baker (a “Backyard Rocker” guest who passed away a few years ago). The Hurricanes also presented a bit of a surprise for the show host, with a “celebrity roast” orchestrated through Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage members were invited to submit questions and comments for the show’s host, and I read some of those submissions and answered some questions during the program. We also played music from some of the show’s most popular guests over the first decade, and reviewed Rise Phoenix Rise’s debut CD, The Land of Oohs and Ahhs, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

For anybody who wants to hear the Tenth Anniversary special edition of the “Backyard Rocker” (particularly anybody outside of Q94’s listening area), you can download mp3’s of all three hours of the broadcast on the home page of Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.

Next Sunday night, Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” kicks off its second decade and eleventh year with the next installment of one of the show’s most popular specials, the Acoustic Jam Special. We’ll welcome some acoustic musicians into the studio to perform individually, and then team up and jam out on some common songs. This time, members of local bluegrassers Mama Corn and local picker and strummer Rick Ramsey will be in attendance, and there could be other guests as well! We’ll also update Local Music News, and review Zupe & Nichols’ instrumental CD, Speechless, in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” The Acoustic Jam Special edition of the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!
