Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 20 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

WOW, what a show! This was one of those jaw-droppingly excellent editions of the “Backyard Rocker,” where the musical guests took the program on a musical free-for-all joyride that made the show’s host regretful when the program’s end time of 10 PM rolled around! Thanks to Chris Vipond, Mike Stanley and Mike Zelnosky – Chris V. & the Stanley Street Band – as well as the cast of guests they brought along; John Stevens on harmonica, Randy “Jackson” Rutherford on guitar, and Missy Bailey on conga. We discussed the group, which morphed from the former Grade E; we heard two newly recorded tracks, and the group and their guests performed several songs live on the air, including an impromptu free jamming edition of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Blues” that erupted suddenly out of an interview question! We also aired an interview with Dennie Huber, the organizer and host of the 18th annual Crazy Fest Amateur Talent Show, which takes place next Sunday afternoon, April 27, at the Greenwood Firehall in Altoona. We debuted new songs from Jeremy dePrisco and Roadkill, and reviewed The Green Onions’ Down the Drain CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.) What a wild week!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”
ACALASIA – “Contradictory”
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Shine On” (performed live on the air)
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Media Controls the World”
JEREMY dePRISCO – “Once in a While”
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Worn Souls” (performed live on the air)

HOUR TWO:

SARA FLECK & THE PALPITATIONS – “Aviator Baby”
SILVER SUNDAY – “History Repeats”
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Losing”
THE GREEN ONIONS – “Moon Pie”
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Freedom” (performed live on the air)
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Folsom Prison Blues” (performed live on the air)
ROADKILL – “Ode to the Failed Wannabe Rockstars Who Now Wannabe Country Stars”

Next Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be area instrumental duo Zupe & Nichols. Altoona-based digital one-man band Zupe and Johnstown/Somerset-based guitarist Dave Nichols recently issued their all-instrumental CD, Speechless. We’ll discuss the album, hear compositions from it, and lucky listeners will have opportunities to call in and win a copy! We’ll also update Local Music News, and review a new CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Zupe & Nichols visit the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 4 – Solegion
MAY 11 – JustMegan
MAY 18 – Rise Phoenix Rise (tentative)
MAY 25 – Memorial Day Special
JUNE 1 – Sarah Fleck & the Palpitations
JUNE 8 – Evelyn’s Ashes
JUNE 15 – Father’s Day Special
