Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 20 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

With no guests in the studio this week, we again took the opportunity to get caught up on new local and regional recordings that have arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We also featured a number of bands and performers involved in last weekend’s annual Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College. We debuted new tunes from Noah & the Rescue Radio, Ted McCloskey, The Big Dirty, South Saturn Delta, Appalachian Invasion, Don Hughes, Mojo Nation, Chris Bell & 100% Blues, El Broosha and Anthony Stauffer & Holy Smoke. We also updated Local Music News, flashed back to 1995 to check out a song from Brandy Lies (two of their former members are now in the band Lareau, who performed last weekend at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts), and we reviewed Larry Nath’s Live It! CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE MARAUDERS – “We Are The Marauders”
RUSTY GUN REVIVAL – “Step It Up n’Go”
NOAH & THE RESCUE RADIO – “Detox”

THE BIG DIRTY – “Slickslacks”
SOUTH SATURN DELTA – “Muddy Water”

EL BROOSHA – “Fleshwound”
PORNO-TEK – “Blind Genocide”

Next Sunday night, our guests via phone will be eastern PA-based blues trio 61 South. We’ll get acquainted with 61 South, Sterling Koch’s new blues project, and hear songs from their just-released self-titled debut CD. We’ll also update Local Music News, and review another new local/regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” 61 South via phone on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

A special benefit will be taking place on Saturday, August 23 to help out an area family in need. The Benefit for the Reeseman Family will take place starting at 1 PM at a location between Geeseytown and Canoe Creek, and will feature performances from the bands Way Down East, FedUP, Chris V. & the Stanley Street Band, Moxie, Parasomnia, Heavy Radio, The Hawks, The Side Effects, The Scraps, and also solo artist Kevin Price.

An update on Pittsburgh guitar great Tony Janflone Jr,…Tony is still on the mend from neck injuries suffered in an auto accident last September. Although not playing out live, Tony is teaching guitar privately and doing recording work for several people. He will be teaching at the Duquesne Summer Guitar Workshop this month, and will be recording with Donnie Iris on his next CD.

The former lead singer of Kitty Whip has hooked up with some former members of State College’s Plush to form a new band. Crystal “Chryssie” Mullins has joined former Plush guitarist Luis “Moltox,” bassist Chris “C-Dub” Walter and drummer Travis Kramer to form the band Pushing Red. The group will be performing modern rock covers and original songs, and should be appearing on area stages soon.

A change in guitar players for Huntingdon County rockers Sound Of Silence. S.O.S. has announced that Clint Kenepp has replaced Jason Ramsey, who left the band recently.

The Southern Huntingdon/Bedford County-based band Floored X has changed singers and reverted back to their former incarnation. The group parted ways with singer Dustin Reisling, who was replaced by Josh Lockard, reuniting with his former Fayted bandmates Larry Bishop on bass and Zac Grace on drums. Floored X has subsequently changed their name back to Fayted.

Bassist “Big Jim” Ricotta has again parted ways with local classic rockers The Red Arrow. Jim has since been working select shows with State College blues-rock outfit Bluesmoon, and filling in on bass with Felix & the Hurricanes on select Sunday nights at Shaw’s in Juniata.
