Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 14 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

We realized we had some heavy competition this week in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers, taking on Cleveland in Sunday night football action; so thanks to everybody who tuned in the “Backyard Rocker” this week! Also, thanks to our guests this week, local alt/pop experimenters The Lampshades (www.myspace.com/thelampshades), for an entertaining and insightful two hours! We met the current edition of the group and got caught up on their latest happenings, and we heard tunes from The Lampshades’ brand new CD, The Lampshades Are Alright. And the group brought along instruments and played three songs on the air live! We also debuted new songs from Kinsey, Head Case and The Tamboureens; updated Local Music News, and reviewed The Rooftops’ Hope on the Streets CD, in “the Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Media Controls the World”
KINSEY – “Something Underneath”
THE LAMPSHADES – “I’m So Different”
SOUNDRIVE – “Jet Plane”
THE LAMPSHADES – “Best that I Can”
RISE PHOENIX RISE – “Walk Away”
THE LAMPSHADES – “Point of No Return” (performed live on the air)
THE LAMPSHADES – “Scotland”
SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
HEAD CASE – “The World We Know”

HOUR TWO:

SARAH FLECK & THE PALPITATIONS – “Aviator Baby”
THE TAMBOUREENS – “Lily”
THE LAMPSHADES – I Guess I’m Doing Just Fine”
THE ROOFTOPS – “Adrian”
THE LAMPSHADES – “My Boyfriend’s Band” (performed live on the air)
THE LAMPSHADES – “Yenlo” (performed live on the air)
THE LAMPSHADES – “Girl from Another State”
THE LAMPSHADES – “What’s That Mean”

Next Sunday night, we’ll preview the upcoming DeltaPalooza benefit concert, happening Saturday, Sept. 27 outside the JFK Student Center on the campus of St. Francis University in Loretto. We’ll be joined by organizers of the event from Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, as well as members of several of the bands who will be taking part at the concert. The forecast is for some jam sessions by the time this two hours is up! We’ll also update Local Music News, and review another new local/regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” We preview DeltaPalooza on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

In Local Music News…

After 19 years of entertaining audiences every weekend at the 4D’s Lounge’s upstairs Schnappes Shoppe, popular local duo Dave and Paula performed their final show at the venue over Labor Day weekend. Keyboardist and singer David Villani and singer Paula Glunt cited career reasons for the conclusion of their weekly performances, but left the door open to future Dave and Paula performances down the road.

Citing personal differences, Altoona heavy metal rockers Dragon Fire have again called it quits. According to guitarist Chris Peters, a new project or two may soon arise from the ashes.

And some recent personnel changes for popular Harrisburg-based rock band Rise Phoenix Rise…Guitarist Jarrod Griffith recently departed the group, and has since joined a new group in his native Tennessee. And bassist Ronnie Williams has parted ways with the group; replacing him is Hollidaysburg’s Jarrod Spinazzola, most recently of the short-lived group House Atlantic.
