Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 21 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

What a wild and crazy show this week! We previewed the 3rd annual DeltaPalooza benefit concert, taking place next Saturday, September 27, outside the JFK Student Center on the campus of St. Francis University in Loretto, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross. We welcomed four brothers from the event’s sponsors, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, to discuss the show. We also welcomed a number of musicians involved in the show, including Chris V. & the Stanley Street Band and Moxie. We got the lowdown on everything that will happen during DeltaPalooza, and the brothers (who are musicians themselves) and musical guests jammed together live on the air! We also debuted new songs from The Clover, Charlie Wheeler Band, The Jellybricks, Born & the Beanstalk and Valencia; updated Local Music News, and reviewed Ryan Matthew’s Driving Home CD in “the Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.) As I said, a crazy show!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE CLOVER – “Kiss Me I’m Irish Today”
THE MARAUDERS – “Late Night Livin’”
RICKY LEE – “Barbecue Snake and Apple Pie”
CHARLIE WHEELER BAND – “I Got to Ramble”
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Media Controls the World” (electric mix)
THE JELLYBRICKS – “Ruin Us”
BLAKKJAK – “Step Back”
BORN & THE BEANSTALK – “Space Oddity”
VALENCIA – “Holiday”

HOUR TWO:

LIES INC. – “Don’t Blink”
THE AVANTGARDE – “Mama’s Right”
SOUNDRIVE – “Insert a Face”
RYAN MATTHEW – “Outta Here”
DELTAPALOOZA STREET BAND – “Corn Whole” (performed live on the air)
SHADES OF JUNE – “Awake”
NITEKAST – “Get In Line”
CHRIS V. & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Marshall” (performed live on the air)
JOHN CHARNEY – “Pre-Choice”

Next Sunday night, with no guests scheduled in the studio, we’ll use the opportunity to get caught up on a number of new local and regional recordings that have arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update Local Music News, and review another new local/regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” We’ll feature maximum local and regional music on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

In Local Music News…

A special benefit show will take place on Saturday, October 11 at the Tyrone American Legion to help out the brother of Naildriver singer Floyd Hunter. Floyd’s brother, Terry, was diagnosed with esophogeal/thoracic cancer earlier this year, and has undergone surgery, radiation and chemotherapy treatments since. The concert to help Terry and his family with medical expenses will begin at 6 PM, and feature performances from Naildriver, This Calling, Slacker Theory and a one-time reunion performance from Saucemonster. The donation will be $10 at the door.

A new band on the area music scene, Mysterytrain, will be performing a special benefit show to help out Penn State Altoona’s Eco-Action organization and its programs. That show will take place on Saturday night, Sept. 27 at 30 Something in Altoona, starting at 10:30 PM.

A former area drummer is returning to the drum kit. Jim Bagrosky, who drummed for such bands as Blue Skye Mourning, Stept On and Wake Up Screaming before trying his hand at singing and playing guitar in the recently-disbanded My Turning Point, is joining popular area rockers Bad Daze, replacing departing drummer Eric Wertz behind the kit. Jim will make his debut with Bad Daze beginning next month.

After a successful six-year run of celebrating the “decade of decadence” on regional stages, popular local 80’s hair-band tribute group Hair Force One has announced they will be playing out their final shows through the end of the year. Former bassist Iva has rejoined the group for their homestretch run, joining singer Victor Synn, guitarist Philip and drummer G.
