Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the Oct. 19 edition of Rocky 104.9's new weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season. (The show will air from 8 to 10 PM after the Steelers' season concludes.)

There were no guests scheduled this week, so we took the opportunity to get caught up on new local and regional recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We debuted new tunes from Xhibition, Jeff Perigo Opus, Hit Or Miss, The Clover, Tylean, Skell and Black-n-Blues. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed The Lampshades’ new CD, The Lampshades Are Alright, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

DAVE DiSTEFANO w/GRINNING MOB – “Light the Fire, Get Down”
XHIBITION – “Til Hell Freezes Over”
THE FLAME SKY – “Only in Your Head”
JEFF PERIGO OPUS – “Penecillin and Sardines”
STEAM CITY RIDERS – “Granola and Gatorade”
HIT OR MISS – “Ifs, Ands or Buts”
SHADES OF JUNE – “Awake”
THE CLOVER – “One Part Whiskey”
THE AVANTGARDE – “Mama’s Right”
TYLEAN – “Corner of My Eye”
ACALASIA – “So Much for the Railcar”

HOUR TWO:

RYAN MATTHEW – “Steeler Fan”
ROADKILL – “Public Service Announcement From the Anti-Valentine’s Day
Council”
KINSEY – “After All”
THE LAMPSHADES – “Business Card”
BLAKKJAK – “Albatross”
RAGHOUSE – “Bleed for Me” (2001, Local Music Flashback)
SATANIC BAT – “Southern Rock Plantation”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Deep In My Head”
SKELL – “Don’t Speak”
SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
BLACK-N-BLUES – “Blame Yourself”

Next Sunday night, we present the annual Halloween Special. For two hours, we’ll spotlight local and regional bands and songs with Halloween themes; bands with words like ‘Witch,’ ‘Bat,’ ‘Spirit’ and other Halloween terminology in their names, as well as songs dealing with Halloween topics. We’ll also throw in some spooky soundbytes for good measure! Break out the candy corn and find the darkest corner of your basement, and crank up the stereo for the Halloween Special edition of the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 16 – CLINT CAROTHERS
DEC. 21 – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL w/JOHN CIMINO (LORDS-A-LEAPING)
DEC. 28 – 2008 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL

In Local Music News.

Local rockers Lies, Inc. have changed lead singers. Citing family and career reasons, former singer J.D. Hicks left the group, and replacing him is Bob Lee. Bob is also frontman of local progressive-metal group The Grimm, and he now works alongside bassist Kent Tonkin and drummer Ron Brode in both projects.

A new local band debuted on stage last night in the Altoona area. Called All The Hype, the new group features Lose The Name guitarists Brandon Kane and Jimmy Skinny, along with former House Atlantic bassist Pat Lang, former Hello Vixen drummer Steve Holtz and lead singer Krystal. The group performs pop, punk and rock covers.

And two special upcoming shows to report: The annual Toys for Tots benefit concert, sponsored by Pennsylvania Musician Magazine, will take place on Saturday night, Nov. 22 at 30 Something in Altoona. The show will begin at 8:30, and will feature performances from Felix & the Hurricanes, Moxie, Nitekast, Tie Down and possibly a fifth band. Admission to the show will be the choice of either a $5 donation or a new unopened toy of equal or greater value; toys and monetary proceeds will go to the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program to benefit needy families this upcoming holiday season.

And the SoFar Music Festival will take place on Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15, at the Penn State Altoona Slep Center. This free event will begin at 2 PM both days, and feature performances from a wide variety of area solo performers on Friday, and area bands on Saturday. Some of the many names slated to perform at the event include Rhyne McCormick, Chris Vipond, Steam City Riders, Heavy Radio, Bruce Foor of Mama Corn, Roger Burgan, The Battle, Union, Condemned Existence, The Flame Sky, Seas We Fear to Sail, Acalasia and more. Vendors will also be present.
