Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the Nov. 23 edition of Rocky 104.9's new weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season. (The show will air from 8 to 10 PM after the Steelers' season concludes.)

This week, we again debuted songs from several new recordings that arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters over the past few weeks. We played new tunes from G211, Brad Yoder, Clarity, Bob Putt, Dirty Looks, The Clover and Spirit Lost. We also updated Local Music News, played a requested 1986 tune by Tommi-Gunn for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Head Case’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
HALESTORM – “The Hand” (live)
G211 – “Syncopation Nightmare”
SARAH FLECK & THE PALPITATIONS – “Iridescent Lover”
BRAD YODER – “Convenience Store”
THE FLAME SKY – “Alright”
CLARITY – “Sanity”
STEAM CITY RIDERS – “Gatorade and Granola”
BOB PUTT – “What’s Wrong with You”
JUSTMEGAN – “This Town”

HOUR TWO:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Issues”
NITEKAST – “Get In Line”
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Intro/The Innocent”
HEAD CASE – “Past Frustration”
VS. THE EARTH – “The American Teenage Anthem”
TOMMI-GUNN – “Naughty Not Nice” (1986, Local Music Flashback)
DIRTY LOOKS – “Look in the Mirror”
ROADKILL – “The Remaining Days of Zeddska the Elder Canine”
SIGNAL LOST (LOSE THE NAME) – “One More Lie”
THE CLOVER – “Old German”
SPIRIT LOST – “The Burden of Life”

Next Sunday night, it’s our second installment of the “Local Music Live in Concert Special!” This program will deliver exactly as advertised; giving you two straight hours of local and regional music live performance cuts, including some never-before aired live footage! We’ll also update Local Music News, and in conjunction with the live performance theme of the show, review Bushmaster’s new live album, Live & Blue, in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” It’s “Local Music Live in Concert” on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 14 – XHIBITION
DEC. 21 – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL w/JOHN CIMINO (LORDS-A-LEAPING)

In Local Music News...

This Wednesday night, Thanksgiving Eve, marks the return of the annual Night of Rock, Rhythm and Blues benefit concert for the Johnstown Free Medical Clinic. The ninth annual benefit will take place at Ace’s Lounge in Johnstown, beginning at 7 PM. The entertainment will begin with Johnstown-based blues and jazz group Rick Cosgrove and Blue Piranha, followed by Nashville’s Johnny Hiland Band. Johnny Hiland is an acclaimed session guitarist who has worked with Ricky Skaggs, Toby Keith, Randy Travis and others. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and the ticket price includes the entertainment and food buffet. Proceeds help out the Free Medical Clinic, which helps uninsured adult patients who are unable to afford medical insurance. Ticket locations and other information are available by calling the Johnstown Free Medical Clinic at (814) 534-6242.

As Christmas season soon gets under way, Johnstown brass rock and soul group Flood City Brass will perform at a unique Victorian-styled Christmas event. “Mr. Fezziwig’s Ball,” part of Ebensburg’s annual Dickens of a Christmas celebration, will take place on Saturday evening, December 6, from 7 to 11 PM at Bishop Carroll High School. Admission to the event is $25 per person, which includes food and drink. Formal period attire of the mid to late 1800’s is encouraged for those attending, but is not required.

Altoona heavy metal rockers Choking Faith capped an eight-year run on area stages with their swan song performance last Saturday night at Aldo’s in Juniata. Lead singer Jason Mittan, guitarist Dan Miller, bassist Steve Seymore and drummer Joe Richards decided to go their separate ways to pursue different career and musical interests.

In area band personnel developments, former Echo Chamber singer Ken Gray has joined to become the new frontman for Huntingdon County rockers Blackout. Ken made his debut with Blackout this past Saturday night at a venue in Mount Union.

Johnstown’s Pelt is rocking to the beat of a different drummer, as Kraig Maldett takes over behind the kit for the departing Joe Galasso. Kraig’s first show with Pelt will be this Wednesday night at a Somerset area venue.

And The Flame Sky introduced their new bass player during last weekend’s So Far Festival at Penn State Altoona’s Slep Center. The group’s new bassist, Eric Koller, replaces Shawn Shultz in the roster. A student of Flame Sky lead guitarist Jason Feathers, Eric just began playing bass a month ago.
