Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the Jan. 11 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season. (The show will air from 8 to 10 PM after the Steelers' season concludes.)

This week, we again checked out new music that arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters over recent weeks. We debuted new songs from Bob Putt, Rise Phoenix Rise, Lakeherst, Zelazowa and The Embalmed. We updated Local Music News, and broke out a 2002 tune by Choco Sam for a Local Music Flashback. We also reviewed Xhibition’s debut CD, Taking Back the Power, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE MARAUDERS – “Dead of Night”
THE CLOVER – “One Part Whiskey”
JIMMY ADLER – “Smoke Signals”
KYX – “Don’t Tell Mama”
BOB PUTT – “Here for the Night”
WHITE WITCH – “Game That I Play”
RISE PHOENIX RISE – “Bittersweet”
LIKE A MOVIE – “Until We Meet Again”
LAKEHERST – “Never Shout Fire in a Crowded Theatre”
OURAFTER – “Push the Pill”
THE GREEN ONIONS – “Moon Pie”

HOUR TWO:

THE FLAME SKY – “The Price You Pay”
G211 – “Syncopation Nightmare”
ZELAZOWA – “Today Is Tomorrow”
XHIBITION – “Afraid of the Dark”
EMILY’S TOYBOX – “Casualty”
CHOCO SAM – “Constantino” (2002, Local Music Flashback)
RIDE OF ARMAGEDDON – “Ride of Armageddon”
X-TERRA – “I Will Survive”
THE EMBALMED – “Heartworm”
SLACKER THEORY – “Over and Over”

The “Homegrown Rocker” will take a week off this coming Sunday, Jan. 18, as Rocky 104.9 will be airing the AFC Championship Game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. The show will return on Sunday, Jan. 25, with the rescheduled appearance of our guests, Xhibition. So again, no “Homegrown Rocker” this Sunday, but Xhibition will be our guests when the show returns Jan. 25. Go Steelers!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 25 – XHIBITION
*FEB. 1 – SUPER BOWL WIDOW’S SPECIAL (THE LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC)
FEB. 8 – JOHN CIMINO (THUNDERBOX)
FEB. 15 – COVER SONG SPECIAL
FEB. 22 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE RECAP SPECIAL

(* – This special will air if Rocky 104.9 does not carry the Super Bowl broadcast itself. If Rocky broadcasts the game, the “Homegrown Rocker” will be cancelled for that week.)

In Local Music News…

There has been a change regarding the all-ages shows that had been taking place at Jaggard United Methodist Church in Altoona over the past five years. Due to apparent legal issues that surfaced following a September car- pedestrian accident involving an audience member, Jaggard United Methodist Church announced that they will no longer host the shows, presented by AnEmergencyScene. For the interim, the Masonic Hall in Altoona will now host shows that had previously been booked for the Jaggard location. There will be more details on this story as it develops.

More personnel moves have happened in the roster of popular Harrisburg rockers Rise Phoenix Rise. Singer Gibson has departed the group to join former guitarist Jarrod Griffith in his new Tennessee-based band The Get- Go’s. Subsequently, former bass player and singer Ronnie Williams has rejoined the group to share lead vocal duties with Hollidaysburg’s Jarrod Spinazzola, who now plays rhythm guitar. The new-look Rise Phoenix Rise played shows in the Altoona area last weekend.

Updating personnel moves regarding Centre County rockers G211: Last week, we reported that Big Jim Ricotta took over bass duties in G211. Now comes word that the group has also added Jim’s Shark Bite associate Adam D to sing and play keys; now making G211 a four-piece group once again.

Former Poptart Monkeys guitarist Dave Danishefsky is nearing completion of his solo album of remakes. The album, called Grow or Pay, marks Danishefsky’s comeback after being critically injured in an auto accident last March. The album will feature Danishefsky playing most instruments, with a number of musicians contributing vocals; including former Poptart Monkeys and current Yada Yada Yada singer Paul Reddon, Rise Phoenix Rise singer/bassist Ronnie Williams, Tommy Bruno and Steve Witner of Kartune, and more. The CD should be released in late February or early March.

Harrisburg techno-funk artist Jamison and his project The Programaddicts have landed a song in an upcoming movie. Miramax films picked up The Programaddicts’ song "City Girls" to be in the upcoming film Adventureland coming out this spring. The film is by the director of Superbad and will star Ryan Reynolds, Kristen Stewart, Bill Hader and more. Jamison plans to present a big premiere event when the film releases, complete with a showing of the film, a Programaddicts performance and more. We’ll have more details about this as they become available.

Altoona native and keyboard player Don Hughes is collaborating with Pittsburgh-based comedian Charlie Godart. Hughes is composing some music for the comedian for use in his upcoming movie, Charlie Godart: The Unauthorized Autobiography. No word on a release date for the movie is available yet.

And a special benefit concert is being organized to help out White Witch bass player Bill Zimmerman, who was stricken with spinal meningitis over the holiday season. The show will happen on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Angus Inn in Hughesville (near Williamsport). Although details about the show are still coming together, it will begin at 2 PM and feature twelve bands. Donation at the door will be $10. We’ll provide more information about this benefit as it becomes available.
