Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the Jan. 25 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season. (The show will move up an hour, to 8 to 10 PM, starting February 8.)

Thanks to our guests this week, Don Hosler and Bill Burns of Lancaster-based band project Xhibition (www.xhibitionpa.com). We learned the story of Xhibition and how the project started, and we heard several tunes from the group’s debut CD, Taking Back the Power. Two lucky listeners called in to win their own copies. We updated Local Music News, and broke out a 1997 tune by Don Hosler’s (and Xhibition bandmate/singer Chuck Clancy’s) former band, Aslan, for a Local Music Flashback. We also reviewed Punchline’s new CD, Just Say Yes, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

INSIDE OUT – “Inside Of Me”
THUNDERBOX – “Simple Revolution”
XHIBITION – “Taking Back the Power”
FLIGHT 19 – “The Game”
XHIBITION – “We’re Not So Different”
DON HOSLER – “Promises were Made for Breakin’”
XHIBITION – Always Out of Love”

HOUR TWO:

RYAN MATTHEW – “Steeler Fan”
THE MARAUDERS – “Roadkill”
XHIBITION – “Closer Than You Think”
PUNCHLINE – “How Does This Happen?”
XHIBITION – “The Last Two People on Earth”
ASLAN – “Questions (The Ice Cream Song)” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
XHIBITION – “Til Hell Freezes Over”

The “Homegrown Rocker” will again take a week off this coming Sunday, Feb. 1, as Rocky 104.9 will be airing Super Bowl 43, pitting the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Arizona Cardinals. The show will return to its former start time of 8 PM on Sunday, Feb. 8, with special guest John Cimino of Thunderbox. So again, no “Homegrown Rocker” this Sunday, but John Cimino will be our guest when the show returns Feb. 8. Go Steelers!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

FEB. 15 – COVER SONG SPECIAL
FEB. 22 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE RECAP SPECIAL
MAR. 8 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE GUEST (TO BE ANNOUNCED)
MAR. 22 – DRAIN THE SORROW
APR. 12 – CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND

In Local Music News…

A number of area bands and musicians affiliated with local music website Rockpage were targeted by an apparent Internet scam in recent days. The scammer contacted various area bands to express an interest in booking them for multiple performances in northeastern Pennsylvania. The scammer tried to use counterfeit money orders to pay for the bands’ services in advance, before then announcing that all performances except one had been cancelled, and requesting a refund of their payment. Fortunately, all of the contacted bands who reported receiving the emails smelled a rat, and either declined or didn’t respond to the scammer.

Updating the situation with the all-ages An Emergency Scene shows, the concerts have found a new home after legal issues forced them to move from Jaggard United Methodist Church. The basement of the Eldolyn Terrace in Altoona will become the new home for the concerts. The first show at the new location will take place this coming Friday, Jan. 30.

More details have been announced regarding the benefit show for White Witch bass player Bill Zimmerman, who was recently stricken with spinal meningitis. “The Benefit for Billy Z” will take place on Saturday, February 21 at the Angus Inn in Hughesville (east of Williamsport). The show will begin at 2 PM, and feature performances from the bands County Line, Tickled Pink, Burnin’ Daylight, The Green Monster, The Flu Shots, Flood, Down Tym, Legato Vibe, Skinny Rinkus, 44 Mag, and Carl Berry and Jeff Pittinger of White Witch with special guests. The donation at the door will be $10. A special fund has been set up for Bill Zimmerman. Checks can be donated to this address:

William Zimmerman 5th Benefit Fund
Muncy Bank & Trust
P.O. Box A
Hughesville, PA 17737

Billy Price’s new CD with French blues guitarist Fred Chapéllier, Night Work, will be released in Europe during March. In support of the CD, Fred Chapéllier will travel to the United States and perform with the Billy Price Band at the 19th Annual Berks Jazz Fest in Reading on Apr. 3, and at a CD Release Party at the Palisades Ballroom in McKeesport Apr. 5.

Local classic rockers Kyx have slimmed their roster for the New Year. Guitarists Bill Ferrell and Jim Walstrom, plus drummer Chris Sherkel, have left the group. Replacing Chris on drums is Michael Hughes of Worry Knot, Loudmouth and Lords-a-Leaping fame.

And Johnstown rock trio Restless has parted ways due to personal differences.
