Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 8 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guests via phone this week, northern New Jersey rockers Rahway (www.rahwayband.com). Rahway won a guest appearance on the program by submitting their CD, Snitches Get Stitches, to the “Homegrown Rocker” drop box during last month’s Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg. We met all four members of the group, learned Rahway’s story, heard thoughts on their music and careers, and heard songs from the CD (and for added effect, police sirens from the Perth Amboy police department in the background!). Along the way, we debuted new tunes from Like A Movie and Deep Seeded. We also updated Local Music News, and reviewed Zelazowa’s new CD, Elephants on a Mousehunt, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

HI-TYDE – “One Who Cares”
LIKE A MOVIE – “The Views of the Revolutionary Towards Himself”
RAHWAY – “Machine”
APPALACHIAN TRANSLATOR – “Who Are Them”
RAHWAY – “Pull It Out”
SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
RAHWAY – “Broken Disease”
DEEP SEEDED – “Dancing in Quicksand”

HOUR TWO:

LIES, INC. “Hypnotic”
ACALASIA – “The Endless Waltz”
RAHWAY – “Draggin’ Fire”
ZELAZOWA – “Serene”
RAHWAY – “Barfly”
SPIRIT LOST – “Mistrust”
RAHWAY - - “I Can Feel It”

This Sunday night, we will again get caught up on some of the many new CD releases that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We will debut a number of new songs, bands and artists on during the show’s course. We'll also update Local Music News, plus review another local/regional CD or two in "The Professor's CD Corner." Maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAR. 22 – DRAIN THE SORROW
APR. 12 – CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND
APR. 19 – STEAM CITY RIDERS
APR. 26 – ZELAZOWA
MAY 24 – MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL (PAST AREA BANDS/ARTISTS)
JUNE 28 – SPIRIT LOST

In Local Music News…

In a blockbuster regional band “trade,” Rise Phoenix Rise sent bassist/singer Ronnie Williams to the Altoona-based band My Friend Frankie in exchange for drummer Eric Wertz. Eric will take over bass duties in Rise Phoenix Rise, joining new lead singer Randy Schulz, Hollidaysburg’s Jarrod Spinazzola on guitar and vocals, lead guitarist Chris Bishop and drummer Rob Hampton. Ronnie Williams will play rhythm guitar and sing alongside lead singer/bassist Candi, lead guitarist/singer Mike Fox, and new drummer Chris Harding. The new line-up of My Friend Frankie played their first show this past Friday night at Altoona’s 4D’s Lounge; Rise Phoenix Rise is currently preparing to play Spring Break shows in Panama City Beach, Florida, and will return to the Altoona area on March 28.

Area musicians will again mark the 4th anniversary of the passing of Altoona guitar great Jeff Wallack in early April with a special tribute show at Aldo’s. The annual Jeff Wallack Tribute Show will take place on Saturday, April 4, and will feature acoustic acts performing from 8:30 to 9:45 p.m., and electric acts performing afterward. Bands and artists interested in performing are invited to sign up at Aldo’s, or email aldosbooking@atlanticbb.net.

A five-band benefit concert has been organized to help out Phil Zungili, Jr., who is battling medical issues. The benefit will happen next Saturday night, March 14, at the Patton Slovak Club. The show starts at 6 p.m., and will feature performances from Cotton Mouth, Shades Of Leather, Sunset Strip, The Smoke Run Band and the Huge Midgets. Donation at the door will be $5, with all proceeds helping out with Phil’s medical bills.

Saxton rockers Fayted will perform at a special benefit to help out the Bedford County Humane Society later this month. The show will take place on Saturday, March 28, at the Bedford Elks Club.

A special memorial service for local bluesman Eric Vincent Kelly has been set up. The service will take place on Sunday, March 22, at Mardorf United Methodist Church, one mile past the Penn State Altoona Campus along Juniata Gap Road. A gathering will begin at 1:30 PM, with the service itself starting at 2:30. Anybody who knew Eric - musicians, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, etc. - is welcome to attend. A special benefit concert in memory of Eric is presently being organized; we’ll have more information about this as it becomes available.
