Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the March 29 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).
Thanks to our guests this week; Ron Dalansky and Joe George of Half Tempted, Phil Steele of Flight 19, and veteran local frontman and educator Steve Oswalt. The four musicians are involved in two upcoming benefit shows in the Altoona area; the annual Jeff Wallack Tribute Show next Saturday, April 4 at Aldo’s, with proceeds going to a local food bank; and the all-ages Jeff Conrad American Cancer Society Benefit Concert, happening Saturday, April 11 at the Eldolyn Terrace in Altoona. The musicians filled us in on the details on both, and shared some Jeff Wallack memories along the way. We dipped into the local music archives twice to feature live footage from Rapid Fire, which featured Jeff, Joe and Steve. We also played music from some of the artists involved in the benefits as well. We debuted new tracks from Slacker Theory, Kun-Tajus, Rob Carlton and The Human Engine; we updated Local Music News; and we reviewed False Icons’ Godcomplex CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Again, another busy week!

This Sunday night, we will be joined in the studio by the New York City-based band The Human Engine, featuring Altoona’s Jon Preston on drums. We’ll get acquainted with the band members and learn their story, hear tracks from their debut EP, The Art of Driving a Wedge, and the group may bring acoustic instruments and perform live for us! We'll also update Local Music News, rummage the local music archive for a Local Music Flashback, plus review another local CD in "The Professor's CD Corner." The Human Engine visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

In Local Music News…
Another installment of the two-day So Far Festival will take place at Penn State Altoona during the last weekend in April. The free two-day music event will take place both on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25. Happening in conjunction with the campus’ Earth Day activities, the Friday half of So Far will take place outside under Penn State Altoona’s performance pavilion, and feature such names as Chris Vipond & the Stanley Street Band, Heavy Radio, Steam City Riders, Kevin Gallopin, The Zach Experiment, Mysterytrain, Phobos Anomaly and more. Saturday’s half of So Far will take place inside the Slep Student Center, and will feature performances from the bands Seas We Fear To Sail, Nancy Drew, Orphans, Dick Shack Posse, Samara, FedUP, This Calling, Drain The Sorrow, Assault Method and more.
Harrisburg’s Jellybricks have received some national attention from Rolling Stone Magazine for a unique video they assembled for the first single off their new album. For the song “Ruin Us,” The Jellybricks generated look-alike characters from the video game Rock Band 2, and edited hours of game video to have their characters playing the song. The video can be viewed on YouTube.
In band personnel moves, Clearfield 80’s rockers The Zoo have changed drummers, with former Ozone Rangers drummer Sam Timchak taking over behind the kit.
And Cambria County classic rockers The Red Arrow have a new rhythm section, with Andy Heinze taking over bass duties and Jeff Shaw now playing drums.
