Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the April 5 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).
Thanks to our guests this week, New York-based foursome The Human Engine, for an entertaining and insightful two hours! We met the band members, which included Altoona’s Jon Preston on drums; and we learned about the group’s music and story to date. We played tracks from The Human Engine’s debut EP, The Art of Driving A Wedge, and the group brought acoustic instruments and did two songs live on the air! Since Jon Preston was in the studio, we decided to flash back to 2000 to play a song from his teenage band, Henry The Hatter, for a Local Music Flashback! We debuted new tracks from Rise Phoenix Rise (Monster Party) and The Sketties; we updated Local Music News; and we reviewed Jeremy dePrisco’s Catch The Squirrel CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Again, another busy week!

We'll also update Local Music News, rummage the local music archive for a Local Music Flashback, plus review Billy Price and Fred Chapellier’s new Night Work CD in "The Professor's CD Corner." Chris Vipond & The Stanley Street Band visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

In Local Music News…
Local performer and composer Zupe has been busy. Zupe recently traveled to Nashville to collaborate with singer/songwriter Diona Devin; the pair plan to shop the song they wrote to music industry interests. Zupe continues to collaborate with Los Angeles-based Italian artist Fabrizio Novo, and has completed nine songs towards that artist’s forthcoming album. And Zupe and guitarist Dave Nichols are collaborating on material for a ballroom dance music album.
Hershey-based alternative band The April Skies is set to release their brand new self-titled ten-song CD. A special CD-release event will take place this Friday night at a Harrisburg area venue.
A brand new music conference debuts later this month in Lancaster. The first Launch Music Conference will take place from April 16-19 in downtown Lancaster. Launch will feature panels, seminars, speakers and a trade show, along with over 150 showcasing bands and musicians. Some of the more noteworthy panelists and speakers during the event will include Chad Taylor of Live, former Danzig member Eerie Von, Philadelphia session guitarist Chuck Treece and more. Some more band personnel moves to report…Altoona alternative rockers Without Zerb have a new guitarist and drummer, with Scott Jurcik joining P.J. Kelly on guitars and former Nine Planet Tour drummer Evan Rutherford stepping in behind the kit.
Altoona heavy metal rockers 3 Score And 10 have added former Choking Faith guitarist Dan Miller, who now plays bass.
Cambria County ‘80s hair rockers Sunset Strip have changed up their guitar section, as James Forish has exited the group, and former member Mel Deneen and Iron Shadows guitarist Aaron Wolf replace him. Sunset Strip bassist Frankie Lyxx had a health scare last weekend, but is back and performing with the group.
