Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 26 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks again to our television friends, The Underground Television (www.theundergroundtv.com), for the use of their studio facility this week to record our guest band interview. And thanks to our guests this week, Philadelphia indie rockers Zelazowa (www.zelazowa.com), for an exciting and interesting two hours. We got reacquainted with the band members, heard their thoughts on their music, live show, recent European tour and more. We heard several tracks from Zelazowa’s latest CD, Elephants on a Mousehunt, and three lucky listeners called in to win copies and Zelazowa T-shirts! We also debuted new tunes from The Hope Fallacy and False Icons; and heard a 2001 tune from State College’s Sona for a Local Music Flashback. In addition, we recapped the 19th annual Crazy Fest Amateur Talent Show on Local Music News; and we reviewed Deep Seeded’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Again, another busy week!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “3 of a Kind”
SPIRIT LOST – “The Misery of a Wounded Heart”
ZELAZOWA – “Today Is Tomorrow”
THE HOPE FALLACY – “”Behind Closed Doors”
ZELAZOWA – “Autumn”
FALSE ICONS – “Mystified”
ZELAZOWA – “Boneyard Desolation”

HOUR TWO:

INSIDE OUT – “Taking My Life”
ROADKILL – “I Wanna Be An Ex-Boyfriend of Alanis Morisette”
ZELAZOWA – “Like Swine for Words”
DEEP SEEDED – “Brother Keepin’”
ZELAZOWA – “Madama Wrecking Ball”
SONA – “Birdsong” (2001, Local Music Flashback)
ZELAZOWA – “I Got My Gun”

This Sunday night, with no guests scheduled, we’ll take the opportunity to get caught up on new CD’s that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll debut a ton of new tunes from various local/regional bands and artists. We'll also update Local Music News, rummage the local music archive for a Local Music Flashback, plus review another local CD or two in "The Professor's CD Corner." Maximum local and regional music abound on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 17 – SLACKER THEORY
MAY 24 – MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL (PAST AREA BANDS/ARTISTS)
JUNE 7 – MYSTERYTRAIN
JUNE 14 – THIS CALLING
JUNE 28 – SPIRIT LOST

At the end of the day, Dennie Huber announced the winners, as determined by a judging panel of former Crazy Fest contestants. Dennie Huber also handed out a Crazy Fest Lifetime Achievement Award to former contestants, Blues Brothers tribute act the Soulmen Rhythm & Blues Revue. Dennie would again like to thank all the contestants and their families, Jack Servello for providing sound, the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company for the venue, all the sponsors, and the people who came out to support Crazy Fest. According to Dennie, barring any unforeseen problems, Crazy Fest will mark its 20th anniversary at the same time and place next year.

Late-breaking news that arrived as the “Homegrown Rocker” was airing…Felix & the Hurricanes won the finals of the Pittsburgh Blues Challenge, held Sunday night at Moondogs in Blawnox (northern Pittsburgh). The Hurricanes will now represent western Pennsylvania in the International Blues Challenge, happening next January in Memphis.

And the “Homegrown Rocker” sends out speedy get well wishes to Marty Scrap, the singer and guitarist with Hollidaysburg punk trio The Scraps. Marty is recuperating from an emergency health situation at a Pittsburgh area hospital.
