Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 7 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

I don’t think we could have packed more into one edition of the “Homegrown Rocker!” First, thanks to our in-studio guest, Dan Klock, the singer, guitarist and mastermind of local improvisational psychedelic hoedown rockers Mysterytrain (www.mysterytrainlive.net). Dan guided us along the Mysterytrain journey and provided insight into the group and their music; including a guided tour of the group’s 20-minute-plus jam epic “Aries!” Dan also gave us details on “Cosmic Jam,” a three-day music festival happening this coming weekend, June 11-13, at Lincoln Caverns Amphitheatre near Huntingdon. We gave away a block of four “Cosmic Jam” tickets to a lucky listener. Two other lucky listeners scored pairs of tickets to see AC/DC tribute act Back In Black, performing at the Anchor Inn near Prince Gallitzin State Park this Saturday night; and during the second hour of the show, we spoke with Back In Black lead singer Tony about the band and what folks could look forward to next Saturday night. If that wasn’t all, we updated Local Music News, played a new song by South Saturn Delta, and reviewed Little Buddy’s 3 Hour Tour CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Whew! I’m exhausted!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Freedom”
SOUTH SATURN DELTA – “Mistaken Identity Blues”
MYSTERYTRAIN – “All The Way Home” (performed live 4/18/09 at Penn State)
MYSTERYTRAIN – “Cry Me A River” (performed live 4/18/09 at Penn State)
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Free”
MYSTERYTRAIN – “What Would It Take” (performed live 4/18/09 at Penn State)

HOUR TWO:

MAMA CORN – “Shenandoah Mountaintops”
MYSTERYTRAIN – “Chateau in the Shade” (performed live 4/18/09 at Penn State)
LITTLE BUDDY – “Don’t Make Me Choose”
MYSTERYTRAIN – “Aries” (performed live 4/20/09)

This Sunday night, our guests will be Altoona heavy rockers This Calling! We’ll meet the band members, get inside their story, and hear tunes from their newly-released debut CD, Witness the Fall, plus you’ll have chances to call and win a copy! We’ll also update Local Music News, hear music from a past band for a Local Music Flashback, and review Ted McCloskey’s new CD One Night Bland in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” This Calling visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JUNE 14 – THIS CALLING
JUNE 21 – FATHER’S DAY SPECIAL
JUNE 28 – SPIRIT LOST
JULY 5 – ERIC D
JULY 12 - SOLEGION
JULY 26 – NICK FINOCHIO

In Local Music News…

Indiana heavy rockers Solegion have made it to the big leagues…Solegion announced that they have signed with Mortal Music, the label owned by Tim King of Soil and Rob Such of Twelfth Gate. Solegion will travel to Chicago in July to record at Dope Factory Studios, owned by Edsel Dope of the band Dope. The album will be engineered by Justin Wilk, who has worked with Staind, Finger Eleven and other groups. The CD should be released nationwide in early November.

Huntingdon/Bedford County rockers Fayted are playing out their final shows in the coming weeks before the band members part ways to pursue other projects. Fayted will be part of the line-up for the upcoming all-ages Day Of Rock concert at Shawnee Park in Roaring Spring June 20, and will close things out with two performances in early July during the Saxton Firemen's Convention. Drummer Zac Grace is collaborating with the group's former guitarist, Kenton Sitch, on a new band project.

Fayted bassist Larry Bishop already has a new band home, as he joins the roster of Huntingdon County rockers Cyphin. That group also welcomes new rhythm guitarist Travis Beaston, and is preparing for a return to live stage action this summer.

Loudmouth is back with an expanded line-up, following the breakup of The O.C.B. (Original Cover Band). O.C.B. guitarists Chad Caprio and Mike Mitchell join the Loudmouth trio of bassist John Cimino, guitarist Brandon Giuffre and drummer Michael Hughes. The expanded edition of Loudmouth played in Altoona last night at the 4D’s Lounge.

Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band are one step closer to performing at Bethlehem's Musikfest event in early August. The group has advanced to the next online voting round of the Musikfest Mid-Atlantic Band Competition, and has placed in the top ten. Online voting continues through June 20; four bands will win a chance to perform live on the Plaza Tropical stage at Musikfest in Bethlehem on Aug. 3 and 4. The top winner of the competition will walk away with a prize package featuring a professional music video shoot and a guaranteed booking at Musikfest 2010. The four finalists performing at Musikfest 2009 will also receive a cash prize. For a link to cast your vote for Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band, visit the group's Myspace website, www.myspace.com/chrisvipond.
