Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 1 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season.

Thanks to our guest this week, solo artist and Ganister lead singer Ken Gray (www.myspace.com/ganisterrocks, www.myspace.com/kengray). (Thanks again to Chris and The Underground Television for providing the studio for the interview!) Ken updated us with his career happenings, and brought acoustic guitar along to perform several original songs and select covers. We debuted new songs from Pan.a.ce.a, Mindspine and Mark Cronk; dug into the local music archive to pull out a 1980 song by Full Moon for a “Local Music Flashback, and reviewed Flux Capacitor’s They Know We Know CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” A busy week!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CLINT CAROTHERS & FRIENDS – “Marseilles”
SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
KEN GRAY – “Carry On” (performed live on the air)
ACALASIA – “Paint These Smiles On”
KEN GRAY – “Black” (performed live on the air)
WAY DOWN EAST – “Deep in My Head”
KEN GRAY – “Breathe” (performed live on the air)
PIVOT – “Moore”
PAN.A.CE.A – “Too Little Too Late”

HOUR TWO:

SATANIC BAT – “Norse Sagas”
MINDSPINE – “Monster”
KEN GRAY – “Higher” (performed live on the air)
FLUX CAPACITOR – “The Game”
KEN GRAY – “Saving Grace” (performed live on the air)
FULL MOON – “Night Calls” (1980, Local Music Flashback)
MARK CRONK – “Rock and Roll Sunday”
SOUND OF SILENCE – “Can’t Find It”

This Sunday night, with no guest scheduled, we’ll again get caught up on new local and regional recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks! We’ll also update Local Music News, feature music from a past band for a Local Music Flashback, and review the Badlees’ new Love Is Rain CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker” this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 15 – FOURTH DIMENSION AUDIO SHOWCASE
NOV. 22 – BRET ALEXANDER (THE BADLEES)
NOV. 29 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS FOOTBALL)
DEC. 6 – FOUR DAY CRAWL (tentative)

In Local Music News…

The Altoona area music scene was saddened this past week with the passing of Gabe Pipetti on Wednesday after a brief illness. Gabe had just turned 59. Gabe played guitar in local bands dating back to the ‘70s. In recent years, he performed with the acoustic acts Midnight Flyer and Friends Of Mine.

Pittsburgh singer/songwriter Bill Deasy is again making literary news. Bill has just issued his second novel, called Traveling Clothes. The book can be obtained through Amazon.com, or at various Pittsburgh area book stores. Bill is also continuing work on several nonfiction book projects for Altoona’s Railroaders Memorial Museum. And musically, he is set to release a new full band album called Being Normal; that CD should be available before Christmas.

On the heels of releasing their new Love Is Rain CD, The Badlees have announced their first live performance dates in five years. The group will perform two shows, at Goodfellas in Pottsville November 21, and at Gullifty’s Underground in Camp Hill on November 22. Joining the current Badlees line-up of singer Pete Palladino, guitarist Bret Alexander, bassist Paul Smith and drummer Ron Simasek for both shows will be Aaron Fink of Breaking Benjamin on guitar. Bret Alexander of The Badlees will be our guest via phone on the “Homegrown Rocker” for the November 22 program.

And next Sunday night is again the night for a special benefit to honor local band favorites The Hurricanes. The Hurricanes benefit will happen at 30 Something in Greenwood. The show will celebrate the Hurricanes’ 20 years on area stages, thank them for their constant support of other charitable events, and raise some funds to help the group when they travel to Memphis in January to represent western Pennsylvania in the International Blues Challenge. The show will start at 6 PM, and feature performances from The Hawks, Who’s Your Daddy, the Tony Mollick Project, the Hurricanes themselves and a jam session.
