Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 20 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

We presented the 2009 installment of the “Homegrown Rocker” Christmas Special, jam packing two hours with holiday music from local and regional musicians! We celebrated local music renditions of time-tested holiday classics, as well as area musicians’ original Christmas compositions. We debuted new Christmas songs from Nick Finochio and Pan.a.ce.a; and revisited local music holiday favorites from Halestorm, Roadkill, Emily’s Toybox, Zupe, Cloud Party, Clashing Plaid, Busted Monkey and many more! Hopefully we provided suitable music for enjoying your eggnog and cookies with!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE JELLYBRICKS – “Father Christmas”
HALESTORM – “Tempest Holy Night”
DAVE KEPHART – “Christmas in Whoville”
J.R. MANGAN – “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”
NICK FINOCHIO – “Let Love In”
THE RED LETTER BAND – “Angels We Have Heard on High”
ROADKILL – “Santa Is a Big Fat Jerk”
EMILY’S TOYBOX – “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”
BLIND JONNY DEATH – “The Greatest Gift”
CHRIS WHITMER – “Tannenbaum”
ZUPE – “O Tannenbaum”
DON HUGHES – “Christmas Medley”
NEGATIVE SPACE – “I’ll Be Home”

HOUR TWO:

DAVE & CATHY NAGLE – “Winter Wonderland”
CLOUD PARTY – “The Ghost of Christmas Presents Past”
PAN.A.CE.A – “Santa Claus is Back in Town”
SWEET PEA FELTY WITH DARCIE MINER – “Blue Christmas”
CLASHING PLAID – “All I Got for Christmas Was Drunk”

This week, we put the wraps on 2009 with the “Homegrown Rocker” 2009 Year In Review Special! In this 3-hour special beginning at 8, we’ll start with January and proceed through the past year on the area music scene, recounting the news, shows, personnel moves, band formations and break-ups, CD releases and other things that helped shape the local and regional music scene in 2009. Of course, we’ll feature music from many of the bands and artists that impacted the area music scene during the past year. We close out 2009 on the “Homegrown Rocker” 2009 Year In Review Special, this Sunday night at 8!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 3 – A CRUCIFYING FEELING
JAN. 17 – MINDSPINE
JAN. 24 – THE EMBALMED
JAN. 31 - CONNER GILBERT
FEB. 7 – SUPER BOWL WIDOW’S SPECIAL (THE LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC)
FEB. 14 – LOVE STINKS SPECIAL (LOCAL MUSIC BREAK-UP SONGS)
FEB. 28 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE RECAP SPECIAL
MAR. 7 – JACKSON MONSOUR

SPECIAL PROGRAMMING NOTE: The “Homegrown Rocker” will soon be returning to the 8-10 PM time slot, pending the ending of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2009 season. If the Steelers bow out of the playoffs before season’s end, the “Homegrown Rocker” will return to the earlier air time effective Jan. 3. However, if the Black and Gold make it into the AFC playoffs, the start time of the “Rocker” will remain 9 PM while the Steelers remain in contention. If they would make the playoffs and advance to the AFC Championship Game, it’s likely that the Jan. 24 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker” would be pre-empted by that game, which is usually a night game and would be carried on Rocky if the Steelers are involved. Keep listening to Rocky 104.9 and check on our website weekly for updates.

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Homegrown Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.
