Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 27 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season.

This week was our annual recap of the past year, the 3-hour 2009 Year In Review Special. Starting at 8 PM, we took one last journey through the past year on the area music scene; starting with January and working our way through to December. Along the way, we recalled the news, events, shows, bands, musicians, formations and break-ups, passings, new CD releases and other things that impacted the local music scene in 2009. And of course, we heard plenty of music from bands and artists who impacted the area music scene this past year.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE MARK ALLEN PROJECT – “Happy New Year (Toss Me a Beer)”
DON HUGHES – “Go for Broke”
VALERIE NICOLE – “Wake Up”
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS – “Like a Mule”
NATE MYERS & THE ACES – “Jager & Waffles”
BILLY PRICE & FRED CHAPELLIER – “Champagne Blues and Pittsburgh Soul”
SHATTERED ICE – “Chills”
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “False Flags”
ZELAZOWA – “Today Is Tomorrow”

HOUR TWO:

HALESTORM – “I Get Off”
THE MARAUDERS – “She Took a Shot”
TED McCLOSKEY – “Seven Minutes”
HELLO, VIXEN – “Grandpa’s Medicine”
SOLEGION – “My Monster”
MYSTERYTRAIN – “All the Way Home” (performed live 6/12/09 at Cosmic Jam, Lincoln Caverns Amphitheater)
THIS CALLING – “1,000 Words”
THE CLARKS – “Trampoline”
THE BUSTED DRUNKS – “The Ballad of the Kingsmen” (performed live on the air 7/5/09)

HOUR THREE:

HYBRID ICE – “Faith Without Works”
GANISTER – “Saving Grace”
SOUND OF SILENCE – “Can’t Find It”
CONNER GILBERT – “Since You’ve Been Away”
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “Goin’ Over the Hill”
THE BADLEES – “Radio at Night”
ACALASIA – “Paint These Smiles On”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Walking a Straight Line”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “The Devil Knows My Name”

For our first show of 2010, we welcome via phone Paris Kalamaras, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for Philadelphia-based rockers A Crucifying Feeling. We’ll learn about A Crucifying Feeling and their story to date, plus hear tracks from their debut CD, From Dust to Life, and lucky listeners will have chances to call in to win their own copy! We’ll also update Local Music News, review Not Alone’s My Incurable Obsession CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig into the local music archive for another “Local Music Flashback!” A Crucifying Feeling in the spotlight, this Sunday starting at 9 on the “Homegrown Rocker!”

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 17 – MINDSPINE
JAN. 24 – THE EMBALMED
JAN. 31 – CONNER GILBERT
FEB. 7 – SUPER BOWL WIDOW’S SPECIAL (THE LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC)
FEB. 14 – LOVE STINKS SPECIAL (LOCAL MUSIC BREAK-UP SONGS)
FEB. 28 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE RECAP SPECIAL
MAR. 7 – JACKSON MONSOUR
MAR. 14 – KAJ

SPECIAL PROGRAMMING NOTE: The “Homegrown Rocker” will soon be returning to the 8-10 PM time slot, pending the ending of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2009 season. If the Black and Gold make it into the AFC playoffs, the start time of the “Rocker” will remain 9 PM while the Steelers remain in contention. If they would make the playoffs and advance to the AFC Championship Game, it’s likely that the Jan. 24 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker” would be pre-empted by that game, which is usually a night game and would be carried on Rocky if the Steelers are involved. Keep listening to Rocky 104.9 and check on our website weekly for updates.

For regular updates on what is happening on the area music scene, pay a visit to Rockpage (www.rockpage.net). Rockpage features band links, a message board, "Homegrown Rocker" updates, the online 'zine publication "The Final Cut," and other local music scene information.

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on "The Homegrown Rocker" are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: WRKY Radio, One Forever Drive, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648; ATTN: Jim Price. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM - 5 PM. You can also email me with inquiries about the show at profjp@rocky1049.com.
