Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the February 21 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).
With no guests or specials scheduled this week, we got caught up on some new recordings that arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We debuted new tunes from Nichols & Pavic, Metropolis America, Mysterytrain, Rain Must Fall, The Riot and Fountain Of Tears. We updated Local Music News, and reviewed Rob Carlton’s Beautiful Collision CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” And we marked the first anniversary of the passing of popular Altoona area musician Eric Vincent “Fat Vinny” Kelly by featuring a 2001 song by Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys for a “Local Music Flashback.”

The 14th annual Millennium Music Conference took place in Harrisburg this past weekend, featuring four nights of showcasing bands and artists, and two days of music business panels, a trade show, keynote speaker, an acoustic stage and more. The “Homegrown Rocker” was there and representing, and we’ll recap Millennium on our next program. We’ll feature sound clips from the conference, including comments from various musicians taking part, excerpts from the keynote address and panel discussions, and music from some of the over 270 bands and artists who performed throughout the Harrisburg area during Millennium weekend! We’ll also update Local Music News, review the Dead End Cruisers’ A Thousand Miles of Whiskey and Sin CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig into the local music archive for another “Local Music Flashback!” It’s a recap of the Millennium Music Conference on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…
The date has been announced for the annual Jeff Wallack Memorial Jam. The show will take place on Saturday night, April 3 at Aldo’s in Altoona. The band and performer line-up will be announced shortly. Proceeds from the night will benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Food Kitchen.
Zupe has released his ballroom dance CD. The CD, called Dance, features a dozen tracks of varying dance styles, spanning Latin-flavored music to waltzes to honky-tonk and more. Zupe sings on four tracks, plays keys and brass instruments, plus handles drum programming. Other musicians helping Zupe on the disc include his longtime collaborator Dave Nichols on guitar, along with Chuck Knepper on guitar, bassist Bill Smith, accordion player Dan Crosser (of Galla & Dan fame), violinist John Parrendo, pedal steel guitarist Gary Jacob, saxophonist Jamie Peck, flutist Vickie Jozefczyk, and acoustic guitarist Paul Kuzupas. The CD can be obtained through Zupe’s website, www.zupe.net.
A new band has formed featuring musicians from Blair and Bedford Counties. Five members strong, The Downfall features former Fayted and Full Throttle singer Dustin Reisling, former Moxie drummer J.D. Heverly, former Fayted and Insult to Injury guitarist Scott Diehl, Lee Stein on guitar and Ryan McKracken on bass. The group describes their sound as “high energy rock’n’roll.” They’ll make their debut appearance on March 27 at a benefit show at the Bedford Moose Hall.
