Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 21 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

During this program, we spotlighted Harrisburg-based rockers Chasing Darwin (www.myspace.com/chasingdarwinmusic), who won an interview and guest slot on the program during last month’s Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg. We aired the interview, recorded last month in the lobby of the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill. We met the band members and learned Chasing Darwin’s story to date, plus heard songs from their self-titled CD. We debuted a new song from Rigel, and dug a 1993 song by Ice Water Mansion from the archives for this week’s “Local Music Flashback.” We also updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed Rotten Belly Blues’ self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Media Controls the World”
HYBRID ICE – “Shining Star”
CHASING DARWIN – “Useless”
RAIN MUST FALL – “Six Years Later”
CHASING DARWIN – “Finding My Place”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “The Devil Knows My Name”
CHASING DARWIN – “Hungry Eyes”
RIGEL – “What Is the Resolution?”

HOUR TWO:

PHOBOS ANAMOLY – “Reassembly”
DUBMISSIVE – “Exodus”
CHASING DARWIN – “As the Crow Flies”
ROTTEN BELLY BLUES – “The Worst Thing”
CHASING DARWIN – “Cloud Nine”
ICE WATER MANSION – “The Swing” (1993, Local Music Flashback)
CHASING DARWIN – “Good Morning”

On our next program, our guests will be John Scarfone, Troy Earnest and Bob Watters (The Hurricanes), three area musicians involved with and performing at the 6th annual Jeff Wallack Memorial Jam, a benefit for the Jeff Wallack Music Education Fund happening April 3 at Aldo’s in Altoona. We’ll get the lowdown on the show from our guests, share some Jeff Wallack memories, hear some music that Jeff helped to create, and our guests might even perform a song live on air! We’ll also update Local Music News, feature another “Local Music Flashback,” and review another local/regional CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner!” We discuss the Jeff Wallack Memorial Jam on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

APR. 4 – ALL JOHNSTOWN RADIO SPECIAL
APR. 11 – RICH “ALL HEART” EDMUNDSON
APR. 18 – WAYSTED SYLENCE
APR. 25 – THE ELDER STATESMEN OF LOCAL MUSIC SPECIAL

In Local Music News…

A benefit to help fight abuse against women and girls will take place next month. The benefit for the V-Day International Organization will take place on Saturday night, April 10, at 30 Something in Greenwood. The bands Spirit Lost, The Downfall, Flatline and I-Enemy will all donate their talents. There will also be several hundred dollars’ worth of door prizes donated by area businesses.

Crazy Fest time is approaching again. The 20th annual Crazy Fest Amateur Youth Talent Show will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, April 25th, at the Greenwood Fire Hall in Altoona. Once again, Crazy Fest offers an opportunity for area youth ages 21 and under to strut their stuff and show off their talents, in front of a friendly and supportive audience. Any type of talent is welcome to perform and compete for trophies, plaques, awards and other prizes; from singers and musicians to dancers, actors, magicians, baton twirlers, and whatever talents the young mind can come up with. There is no fee for youngsters to enter; a donation of $2.00 per person will be collected at the door from the general public. All monies fund the trophies and plaques handed out during Crazy Fest, and food sale proceeds benefit the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company. For more information or an application to enter, call show organizer and host Dennie Huber at (814) 942-2516.

In CD news, Pittsburgh singer/songwriter Brad Yoder has finished work on his upcoming new CD, and expects to release the disc in early May. Likewise, SM2, the mother-and-son duo of Sherri and Shane Mullen, has completed work on their self-titled debut disc, and it too will be released in early May.

Kitty Whip has announced that they are performing their final show next month. The group will hang it up after April 17, when they play their final show at a Patton area venue. Singer Ruschelle and guitarist Dawn will continue with an acoustic project called Two Girls, One Tin Cup.
