Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 21 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Originally we were to have a band guest on this week’s program, but as happens occasionally, those plans fell through. Instead, we took the overdue opportunity to clean out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailbox and get caught up on new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks and months. We debuted a ton of new songs, from such names as The Wheels, Monster Track Supergroup, JT Blues, Jason Davoli, Anvah, Lovehatething, Roy Handy & the Moonshot, Infused, Graces Downfall, The Taken and Beyond The Lies. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” reviewed Pan.a.ce.a’s Bare Bones CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dug out a 1982 classic from Harpo for a “Local Music Flashback.”

We also had a conversation with Adam Mundok of Johnstown’s nonprofit Venue Of Merging Arts (VOMA), which is renovating a former church building into a facility to stage live music and arts events; for information on how to help VOMA in their quest for grant money to complete the renovations, visit their website, www.thevoma.com.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

TED McCLOSKEY – “Beautifully Dead”
THE WHEELS – “Strong Steady Comfort”
MONSTER TRACK SUPERGROUP – “Hot Child in the City”
HYBRID ICE – “Bring the Gold”
JT BLUES – “Sugar Free”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Free”
JASON DAVOLI – “Free”
DAVE DISTEFANO – “Get Your Back Off Against the Wall”
ANVAH – “Shaking the Dust Off”
LOVEHATETHING – “Exit Game”

HOUR TWO:

NORMAN NARDINI – “Love Dog”
ROY HANDY & THE MOONSHOT – “I Am a Dog”
PAN.A.CE.A – “No More Secrets”
INFUSED – “I Know”
HARPO – “Where the Sidewalk Ends” (1982, Local Music Flashback)
GRACES DOWNFALL – “Always the Victim”
THE TAKEN – “Toxic Beautiful”
BEYOND THE LIES – “Caught in the Crossfire”

On our next program, our guests will be up-and-coming Harrisburg area rockers The Taken. We’ll meet the members and learn The Taken’s story, hear songs from their new EP; and they’ll bring instruments and play a couple of tunes live for us as well! We’ll also update “Local Music News,” review another new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig another “Local Music Flashback” from the archives! The Taken visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

There have been some new developments regarding AnEmergencyScene, which has presented all-ages concerts in the Altoona area over the past six years. They have recently been declared an official 501 nonprofit organization, and have also moved to a new venue. AnEmergencyScene shows will now take place at the Archway Center at 401 5th Avenue in Altoona. The first show at the new location will happen this Saturday, November 27 starting at 5 PM, and will feature the bands On The Run, Seas We Fear to Sail, A Few Inches Short, The Up Downs, How To Win A War, EVK and Chelsea & Arianne. Johnstown singer and songwriter Denise Baldwin is a finalist in an online contest to win a chance to perform in Los Angeles. Denise performed in a live videocast Sunday evening for the Whotune.com’s “Play in LA” contest. One of five finalists, Denise performed to a judge’s panel; if selected, she will win a trip to perform in Los Angeles.

A new endeavor to help area kids to obtain instruments has begun. Started by local guitarist Steve Aman, Rock The Walk accepts used instrument donations from area musicians to donate to youngsters who can’t afford them. Rock The Walk also hopes to hook up disadvantaged youngsters with music lessons. Anyone interested in donating instruments to the cause can visit Rock The Walk’s Facebook page for more information, or email Steve at mojoaman88@yahoo.com.

Except for a few select shows in December, the only way you might be able to see Felix & the Hurricanes in action next month is from behind bars. The Hurricanes will again perform shows at various state correctional institutions across Pennsylvania starting December 1.
