So I have a project bass that i'm basically going to use just for the body of it.... I plan on stripping it down and re finishing it, all new hardware and a different neck. Does anyone know where a good place to get a bolt on 34.5 neck would be? how should I go about matching it up ? How do I know the neck I buy will fit the body?

I'm a virgin bass builder so all comments, suggestions, tips are appreciated.

I figure this will be a great way to really get to know the hardware of the instrument i've been learning to play.

Thanks!

Check with allparts.com they may have what you're looking for. Although, I'll caution that replacement necks aren't cheap.

www.warmoth.com

Should be enough info on there too. Just study and understand all the options before you order or I'm sure if you call they can help too.

Where did you come up with 34.5"?

I don't know what your body is, but most warmoth/other parts sites, sell fender compatible parts. A 34.5" neck would not be a bolt on fit to an existing Fender compatible body.

If someone sells a 34.5" neck that happens to fit, it probably won't be able to be intonated without moving the bridge.

If you want to convert an existing Fender compatible body to use a 34.5" neck, you'd probably have to get someone to custom make a neck.

If you are not talking about Fender compatible parts, then I have no idea, but you won't have much luck with the typical parts manufacturers.

I agree, Warmoth is a great place to get parts from.

so after more digging i have no idea where i came up with 34.5".... looks like most necks for sale out there are 34" inch... i'm assuming i may have to move the bridge anyhow to get the intonation correct because the iriginal neck was shorter. I'm hopeful that when i purchase a neck that it will come with spme specs so i can get the bridged placed correctly.

the body is your typical squire style body.

i checked out warmoth, looks like i should be able to pick something up there.

There are only a handfull of squier basses that aren't 34" scale. The only current production models I can think of are the Bronco, the Mustang, and the Jaguar SS.

If you do have one of those, or an older short scale Squier, you would have to relocate the bridge to put a 34" scale neck on it.
