Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 23 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We returned to the mailboxes on this week's program to see what new recordings have arrived in recent days, and introduced more new local and regional music! We debuted new songs by Craig Morrison, Angry Johnny Stangry, Anatomy of the Sacred, Hedonism Bots and One Adam 12. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1994 number by Stte College's Jealous Sun from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Syracuse, New York's Simplelife, and reviewed Ember's Fall's Cessation CD in "The Professor's CD Corner."

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE WRECKERS - "Best Days"
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Lonely Cells"
CRAIG MORRISON - "Trip to the Zoo"
BLACK CAT MOAN - "Medicine Man"

SIMPLELIFE - "The Truth Is" (Across State Lines)
PAWN TAKES QUEEN - "Remedy and Poison"
ONE ADAM 12 - "Bullet Proof"
SMALL TOWN HORROR SHOW - "Storm of the Century"

With Halloween season upon us, our next program will be the annual "Homegrown Rocker" Halloween Special! Every performer or song we play will have a connection to Halloween, meaning you will hear bands and songs themed around ghosts and ghouls, spiders and bats, horror, vampires, things that go bump in the night and more! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a Halloween-themed "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Small Town Horror Show's The Dead Didn't Die CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 13 - Patched Together (preview)
NOV. 27 - Derek Woods Band (rebroadcast)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Cresson-based singer and songwriter Josh Gallagher took another step forward in his journey on popular NBC-TV talent search program The Voice. On the October 17 edition of the program, Josh edged out another singer from Blake Shelton's team, "Team Blake," and earned his entry into the next round of the competition. Both Josh and his singing rival, contestant Blaine Long, sang on the 1983 hit song "Stranger In My House," which was popularized by Ronnie Milsap but written by Altoona's Mike Reid. After the song and some deliberation, Shelton picked Josh to advance to the knockout round of the program, which airs on October 24.

Another regional performer who also had made it to Team Blake on The Voice wasn't so fortunate. Pittsburgh's Tarra Layne - now based in Los Angeles - was not able to advance on the October 17 episode of The Voice. But she did get to enjoy another honor, singing the National Anthem before the Oct. 20 Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game vs. the San Jose Sharks at Consol Arena.

In band personnel news, One Adam 12's sound effet and sample specialist, Tony Dostal, is taking temporary leave from the group due to medical reasons.
