Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 6 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We returned to the mailboxes on this week's program to see what new recordings have arrived in recent days, and introduced some more new local and regional music! We debuted new songs by Young Lungs, 13 Saints, Blossom Hollow, John Lyons and Sherri Mullen. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2006 number by House Of Cain from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Poughkeepsie, New York's Adesta.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS BELL - "Whole Lotta Whiskey"
JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "You Got to Believe It"
YOUNG LUNGS - "Reality"
LOVEBETTIE - "Your Own Worst Enemy" (live)
13 SAINTS - "Evel Knievel"
THE HAWKEYES - "Ghost"
SHANNON & THE MERGER - "Fast Train to Memphis"
NOBODY'S HEROES - "State Train"
MAMA CORN - "Someday Knock on Wood"
STEVE TREADO - "Apocalyptic Blues"
BLOSSOM HOLLOW - "Knight in Shining Armor"
THE NIGHTCRAWLERS - "Lover's Test"

HOUR TWO:

MY HERO ZERO - "Make Some Noise"
WALKNEY - "Airplane"
JOHN LYONS - "Skyla-Rose"
SHERRI MULLEN - "Worth Dying For"
DEAD LEAVES - "President"
HOUSE OF CAIN - "Emissary" (2006, Local Music Flashback)
ADESTA - "Innocence" (Across State Lines)
TAKE 147 - "Succumb"
44MAG - "Disfigure"
HATE GRENADE - "Wake Up"
AFRAID OF HUMAN - "Now You Know"

On our next program, we will speak with guest Kent Tonkin, one of the organizers of the sixth annual Patched Together Benefit concert, which happens at Altoona's Bavarian Aid Society on November 19. Kent will fill us in with details about the event, which benefits The Healing Patch and its counseling and mentoring services for grief-stricken youngsters who have lost loved ones. We will also hear music from some of the participating performers at this year's event! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review The Ethan Jano Band's self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOV. 27 - Derek Woods Band (rebroadcast)
DEC. 4 - Don Hughes
DEC. 11 - Greg Mudzinsky (Happy Valley Christmas)
DEC. 25 - Christmas Special
JAN. 1 - 2016 Year in Review Special
JAN. 15 - Nobody's Heroes

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Cresson-based singer and songwriter Josh Gallagher continues his trek on NBC Television's talent search program The Voice. On the Oct. 24 edition of the program, Josh lost his singing competition to Sundance Head (son of 1960s hitmaker Roy Head) and was cut by Blake Shelton from "Team Blake," but was immediately "stolen" and added to Adam Levine's "Team Adam," and advances to the program's live playoff rounds this month.

In band happenings, area acoustic duo Strait & Miller - Chris Strait and Dylan Miller - have announced that they are going their separate ways to pursue other projects.

Scranton-based bluegrass group the Coal Town Rounders have announced that they are disbanding after a seven-year run.

Pittsburgh metal powerhouse Skell is again seeking a new drummer, as drummer Jordan McClure has parted ways with the group due to career reasons.

A benefit show in memory of an area resident will take place next weekend. The Strayer Benefit will take place next Sunday, November 13, at the Unter Uns Society in Altoona. Proceeds will help Megan Strayer and two-year-old son Colin after the unexpected death of husband and father Ivan Strayer last month. The show will begin at 1 p.m., and will feature performances from the bands Root and the Fifths, Down to the Wire, the Backyard Rockers, Jampact, D.D. & the Pub Crawlers and hotdamn. Donation is $15 per person, which includes the musical entertainment and spaghetti dinner. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free.
