Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 4 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

As we roll into December and the holiday season, we presented the first of several holiday-geared programs this week, as welcomed guest Don Hughes (www.donhughesmusic.com). A Blair County native now calling Pittsburgh his home base, Don recently issued his second CD, an instrumental Christmas season album called It's Christmas. We discussed the new album and Don's career, and featured compositions from the CD as well! Along the way, we debuted new tunes from The Wreckers, Tommy Fix and Garrison Bailey, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2005 number by Fat Vinny & the Wiseguys from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," and reviewed the Happy Valley Holidays compilation CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

NOBODY'S HEROES - "State Train"
RAVEN & THE WREN - "Lost and Found"
DON HUGHES - "Hark the Herald Angels Sing"
THE WRECKERS - "Down Tonight"
DON HUGHES - "We Three Kings"
YOUNG LUNGS - "Reality"
DON HUGHES - "Deck the Halls"
THE ARTS - "Bertholettia Excelsa"
TOMMY FIX - "Stand Up"

HOUR TWO:

BACKLASH - "Days Gone Past"
ROYAL BENSON - "The Harder Parts"
DON HUGHES - "We Wish You a Merry Christmas/Carol of the Bells/Go Tell It on the Mountain" (medley)
PURE CANE SUGAR - "O Come, O Come Emmanuel"
DON HUGHES - "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
FAT VINNY & THE WISEGUYS - "Shuffle Up and Deal" (2005, Local Music Flashback)
DON HUGHES - "Joy to the World"
LIZ DE LISE - "Baby Bird"
GARRISON BAILEY - "You Ain't Gettin' Me"

Our next program will be holiday-themed as well, as our guest will be Greg Mudzinski! Last holiday season, Greg introduced us to a new holiday season compilation disc, Happy Valley Holidays, a CD featuring Christmas and holiday sounds from a number of Centre region bands and artists! We will discuss the album and how Greg put the project together, and hear tracks from the CD as well! Along the way, we will debut a few new tunes, dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Don Hughes' It's Christmas CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 25 - Christmas Special
JAN. 1 - 2016 Year in Review Special
JAN. 15 - Nobody's Heroes
JAN. 22 - Made It to the Majors Special
FEB. 5 (Super Bowl Sunday) - Ladies of Local Music Special

In Local Music News...

Cresson-based singer and songwriter Josh Gallagher continues his trek on NBC's popular television show The Voice. Online voting in recent weeks enabled Josh to make it to the last eight contestants on the program. The winner on The Voice will be determined later this month.

A new area bluegrass festival event has been announced. The inaugural Wills Mountain Jamboree will take place on June 30 and July 1 of next year at the Port Royale Farm, located south of Bedford. Bluegrass and old-timey music will be the focus of the festival. Performing artists for the first event have yet to be determined.

Hate Grenade has found their new bass player. Donny Weissinger takes over bass duties, effective with the group's next show on December 16 at Blue Fox Billiards in Winchester, Virginia.

And Pittsburgh's Bill Deasy has issued a brand new CD. Bill, frontman and guitarist for former nationally-signed recording group The Gathering Field, released the new album, Timeless Things, late last month. Bill and the musicians who performed on the new album will play a concert on Friday, December 23, at the Oaks Theater in the Oakmont section of Pittsburgh.
