Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 15 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Our guests on this week's program were Brian Dumm, Grant Matthews and Chris Lawson of Nobody's Heroes. From the group's practice facility in Altoona, we discussed the band and its story, and introduced songs from their latest CD, One Foot on the Gas, the Other in the Grave! In lieu of the "Local Music Flashback" this week, we instead paid tribute to Dr. Dave Parry, who passed away unexpectedly on January 3. We remembered Dave and shared music he sang on from his past bands 9 Lb. Hammer, Flying Debris and the Allegheny Bilge Rats Shanty Choir. We also debuted a new song by Mama Corn, updated "Local Music News" and reviewed Shannon and the Merger's Long Way Down CD in "The Professor's CD Corner."

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Everybody Else"
CHRIS RATTIE - "Hard Heart"
NOBODY'S HEROES - "Scratch My Name on the World"
MAMA CORN - "Nobody Died"
NOBODY'S HEROES - "Reflections of My Demise"
NATASCHA & THE SPY BOYS - "He'll Do the Same Thing to You"
NOBODY'S HEROES - "The Bottle"

(TRIBUTE TO DR. DAVE PARRY)
9 LB. HAMMER - "Skinny Woman Blues" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
FLYING DEBRIS - "Crisis" (1998, Local Music Flashback)

HOUR TWO:

ALLEGHENY BILGE RATS SHANTY CHOIR - "Hanging Johnny" (performed live at Levels, State College on Oct. 22, 2014)

NOBODY'S HEROES - "Rivers and Sailors"
SHANNON AND THE MERGER - "Blow Up"
NOBODY'S HEROES - "Diane Lonely"
CHROME MOSES - "Bleeder"
NOBODY'S HEROES - "Blood on the Banjo"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Wasteland"
BEN DUMM & THE EAST SIDE BAND - "Devil's Debt"

For our next program, we will return to the mailboxes to see what new recordings have arrived in recent weeks, meaning we will provide lots of new tunes and maximum local and regional music! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," step "Across State Lines" to explore music from an independent band or artist from outside Pennsylvania, and review Wings That Buzz's Every Pretty Thing CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 29 - Made It to the Majors Special
FEB. 5 (Super Bowl Sunday) - Ladies of Local Music Special
MAR. 5 - Millennium Music Conference Recap
MAR. 12 - Millennium Drawing Winner (to be announced)

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

In Local Music News...

Black Ridge has a new drummer. The group announced that Mike Conrad takes over behind the drum kit.

The area party band This Albatross will be taking time away from live stage action while singer Autumn Shiffler logs some hospital time for surgery next month. The group expects to return to live performing in early May. Their final show before the break will take place on Saturday, January 28 at the Old Canal Inn in Hollidaysburg.

One of the Altoona area's live music venues rebooted and began a new chapter under a new name. The former 30 Something Restaurant and Lounge is now Club Kryptonite, and introduces an expanded dance floor as part of new renovations. The venue will still present live music, and the band Teazed became the first group to initiate the venue in its new incarnation on January 14.

Several bands and performers will represent the region during the upcoming International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Sponsored by the Blues Foundation, the 33rd annual Challenge happens from January 31 through February 4 at various venues along Memphis' famed Beale Street. Some of Pennsylvania's representatives at this year's Challenge include the Crossroads Duo (Sterling Koch and Jack Kulp), Black Cat Moan and the Jimmy Adler Band.
