Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 16 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We were again graced with musical guests on this week's program, as we spoke with Dan Oatman and Katie Rhodes of Johnstown-based indie folk/rock group The Crew Of The Half Moon (https://www.thecrewofthehalfmoon.com/). We learned about the group and its beginnings, and explored their music, playing songs from their new album (literally, they issued it on vinyl!), Blanket Fort Radio! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats and Zach Wade & the Good Grief, updated "Local Music News," and reviewed Sofeya and the Puffins' Genetic Confetti CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

DOUG IRWIN - "Rattle the Cage"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "You Will Know"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "U-235"
MISS MELANIE & THE VALLEY RATS - "What I Need"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Luxury"
FLOAT - "Static"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Stark Lost Lovers"

HOUR TWO:

ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "From a Coma"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Wasteland"
SOFEYA AND THE PUFFINS - "Firelight"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Cemetery Cops"
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Hello, Haligh"

For our next show, we return to the mailboxes to explore new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, so get ready to hear multiple new tunes! We will also dig into the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and review Doctor Smoke's The Witching Hour CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

APR. 30 - The Long and Short of It Special
MAY 14 - Nag Champions
MAY 21 - Jack Pyers
MAY 28 - Memorial Day Special
JUNE 11 - The Whatleys
JUNE 18 - Father's Day Special
JUNE 25 - 13 Saints

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

For ukulele enthusiasts, the fourth annual Allegheny Ukulele Soiree will take place next weekend in the Altoona area. Presented by the Allegheny Ukulele Kollective, this year's Soiree event will happen next Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 21-23) at Laurel Lodge near Altoona. The event will feature concerts, skill workshops, a trade show, vendors, open mics and networking among ukulele fans. Featured performers and workshop presenters this year include Lil' Rev, Stuart Fuchs, Ben Carr, Gracie Terzian, Rachel Manke, Mim of Mim's Ukes, Curt Sheller and Amber Rozel. Tickets are still available for the weekend, including a one-day pass for next Saturday. For more information or to register, visit the website http://ukulelesoiree.com.

A popular Indiana (PA)-based music venue has undergone a change. Effective earlier this week, the Brown Hotel in Indiana transitioned into a full-time music club and restaurant. The venue separated from its liquor license, and will now be open to ages 18 and older, with BYOB option for those over age 21. The venue will continue to host live bands, along with a weekly open mic night on Tuesdays.

And a new acoustic group is debuting on area stages. Running Creek features former 22 East frontman Ron Russell on vocals and guitar, who teams with Backyard Rockers singer/guitarist Rich Dasch and percussionist Jim Price, plys bassist/singer/guitarist Mo Yon and guitarist/singer Bob Welsh. The group does a blend of acoustic classic rock favorites and hits. Their first official show will be performing at a fundraiser dinner at Altoona's UVA Club this Thursday evening.
