Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 4 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we returned to the mailboxes to check out new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks! We debuted lots of new music, including songs from Bob Helbig, Dan Stonerook, The Hidden Agendas, Doctor Smoke, Granati Brothers, Embers Fall and Embrace The Hostility. We also updated "Local Music News," dug into the archive for a 1993 number fron Out Of The Blue for our "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from Colorado-based indie-folk group The Coteries, and reviewed Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats' Twelve Thirty One CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

The winners have been announced for the annual Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest, where entrants were invited to submit their original songs about Pennsylvania, its people, locations and heritage. After a panel of judges assessed the entries, first place was awarded to Chris LaRose of Lock Haven for his song "Pepper Hill." Second place went to the Hanover-based duo of Mike Blottenberger and Robert Shuey for their song "Kissing Bridges." And Huntingdon area native Doug Forshey - now based in Nashville - captured third place for his song "Ledges Quarry Blues." All three winners receive cash prizes and passes to the upcoming Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival later this month, and will be able to perform their winning songs during the festival.
