Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 23 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we returned to the mailboxes to check out the new local and regional recordings that have arrived in recent weeks. This meant that we debuted lots of new music, including new tunes from Ted McCloskey, Jonah Whale, Chris Bell 100% Blues, Bill Deasy, Silver Screen, Laika, the Astro-Hound, Phobos Anomaly, Thunderlizard, Defy the Tide and Dave Hates Everything. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1994 tune by Cry Baby from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to check out a tune from Montreal, Canada's Era 9, and reviewed Marshmellow Overcoat's self-titled CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE COMMONHEART - "Who Dat Mama"
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND - "Never Again"
TED McCLOSKEY - "Rather Live with the Heartache"
ONE OF THE BIGS - "In the Morning"
JONAH WHALE - "Push"
FLIGHT 19 - "Liquid Courage"
CHRIS BELL 100% BLUES - "Baptized By the Blues"
BILL DEASY - "Blood Red Moon"
SILVER SCREEN - "Make Believe"
LAIKA, THE ASTRO-HOUND - "Life & Nature's Little Nuances"

HOUR TWO:

BLACK RIDGE - "Let It Roll"
JIM DONOVAN & THE SUN KING WARRIORS - "I'm Doing Fine"
PHOBOS ANOMALY - "Skeleton"
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "Wander and They Fly"
THUNDERLIZARD - "Give to Me"
CRY BABY - "Love Handles" (1994, Local Music Flashback)
ERA 9 - "Bare Bones" (Across State Lines)
DOCTOR SMOKE - "The Willow"
DEFY THE TIDE - "Traced in Flames"
FYRE - "Madness"
DAVE HATES EVERYTHING - "Weekend Warrior"

Our next program may be one of the most anticipated programs of the year! We will resurrect a show idea born on the 1970s/80s late-night television comedy show "Second City Television" - John Candy used to host a recurring segment called "The Fishin' Musician," where - appearing as show host 'Gil Fisher' - John would interview famous bands and musicians with a fishing or hunting trip as the backdrop! (Some of the performers he interviewed included Joe Walsh and his band, The Plasmatics and Carl Perkins.) We will present the first-ever "Fishin' Musician Special" edition of the "Homegrown Rocker," as the show host interviews area bluegrassers Mama Corn as we all cast lines at a remote fishing pond location in southern Huntingdon County (a pond known to have several sizable catfish, bass, carp and more). We'll learn about the latest Mama Corn happenings, hear tunes off their new Live and Learn CD, and - if lucky - one or more of us may haul in a fish or two! In addition, we will update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, and review Bill Deasy's Timeless Things CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!" In fishing lingo, this one should be "a keeper" - listen to the first-ever "Fishin' Musician Special" edition of the "Homegrown Rocker!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 20 - Fast-Forward Special (Area Musicians Then and Now)
SEPT. 10 - Matt Otis & the Sound
SEPT. 17 - Fyre
OCT. 15 - Lady

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

Bands and artists wanting to submit news items for "Local Music News" may email their news to homegrownrocker@gmail.com. Indicate "MUSIC NEWS" in the subject heading!

Bands and artists interested in having music aired on the show are invited to send their broadcast-quality recordings to: Magnum Broadcasting, 315 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801; ATTN: Jim Price/Homegrown. Or drop the recordings off at the station during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9 AM – 5 PM. You can also email digital song files or inquiries about the show to homegrownrocker@gmail.com.
