Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 27 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

For this week's show, we again checked the mailboxes to see what new recordings have arrived in recent days, and debuted some new music on the show. Receiving their first "Homegrown Rocker" airplay were new tunes from Drive-By Magic Show, Marshmellow Overcoat, Keith Randall, Jonah Whale, Matt Otis & the Sound, Charles Marciano, Instead Of Sleeping, Jonathan Monument, Jon Smith's Voyages and Skell. Along the way, we updated "Local Music News," dug a 1989 song by Altoona favorites The Front from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a new track from New York's Jake Tavill, and reviewed Ted McCloskey's Last Flower Standing CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

WALKNEY - "I Always Wanted You"
THE WRECKERS - "Down Tonight"
DRIVE-BY MAGIC SHOW - "Lonely Whale"
MARSHMELLOW OVERCOAT - "See the Plan"
KEITH RANDALL - "River of Love"
JONAH WHALE - "Live for Tomorrow"
MATT OTIS & THE SOUND - "Neo-Narcissist"
ZACH WADE & THE GOOD GRIEF - "Something Happened"
CHARLES MARCIANO - "Feet to the Floor"
SEA OFFS - "Strawberry"
INSTEAD OF SLEEPING - "Mr. Wright Now"

HOUR TWO:

THE WHATLEYS - "History Lesson"
BASTARD BEARDED IRISHMEN - "Whiskey, Rum, Bourbon, Beer"
JONATHAN MONUMENT - "Ne-er-Do-Wells"
TED McCLOSKEY - "The Presence of Your Absence"
JON SMITH'S VOYAGES - "Absurd"
THE FRONT - "Still the Rain" (1989, Local Music Flashback)
JAKE TAVILL - "Legs In a Twist" (Across State Lines)
THE CREW OF THE HALF MOON - "Cemetery Cops"
PROGMIUM - "Rejected"
PENSIVE FEAR - "The Awakening"
SKELL - "Deaf Ears"

We'll keep checking the mailboxes next week, guaranteeing more new tunes and maximum local and regional music on our next program! We will also dig a song from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback" and step "Across State Lines" to hear music from an independent band or artist from outside the state!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

SEPT. 10 - Matt Otis & the Sound
SEPT. 17 - Fyre
OCT. 1 - Small Town Horror Show/Zombietown U.S.A. preview
OCT. 15 - Lady

In Local Music News...

A benefit show has been organized to help out a local musician on the mend from injuries. Tim Homerski, longtime area musician and multi-instrumentalist with groups such as Acoustic Stew, Nag Champions and more, suffered a broken clavicle, six broken ribs and a punctured lung in a bicycling accident earlier this month. A benefit event to help Tim with his medical costs will take place on Saturday, September 23 at the Patton American Legion in Patton. The event will begin at 7 p.m., and feature performances from Disorganized Crime (Rick Ramsey & Ed Hofer), Joe Konior & Melissa Vella, Rob Sottile, Acoustic Stew, The Huge Midgets, Negan and an open jam session.

The lineup has been set for the sixth annual Striking Chords Against Cancer Benefit, which takes place on Friday evening, September 8 at Altoona's Railroaders Museum. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society. The gates open at 5 p.m., with music starting at 5:30 p.m. on two stages. Performing will be Drew Dodson, The Chrome Hearts, Ten High Five (acoustic), Flight 19, Matt Wagner, Agent Smith, Matt Pletcher and This Albatross. Tickets are $10 per person, with kids 12 and under admitted free. For more information, visit the event's website, www.strikingchordsaltoona.org.

The inaugural Rock Out to Knock Out MS concert will take place on Saturday, September 30 from 4 to 9 p.m. on the Diamond in downtown Hollidaysburg. Presented in part by the Project Diagnosis Foundation, founded by MS warrior Tim Surkovich, Rock Out to Knock Out MS will feature food, vendors and live music from Felix & the Hurricanes, the Hollidaysburg School District Marching Band, Matthew Sheedy, Questionable Methods, Walkney and Progmium. For more information on the event, visit the website www.rockouttoknockout.com.

And a tragic vehicle accident in July involving the New York-based metal band Adrenaline Mob has claimed a second victim, this one from Pennsylvania. Adrenaline Mob's tour manager, Jane Train - known off stage as Janet Rains of Pittston - died on August 22 after being removed from life support following injuries suffered in the July 14 accident in northern Florida when a tractor-trailer collided with the band's RV. She was 48, and had previously sang with the Wilkes-Barre-based group M80. That accident claimed the life of Adrenaline Mob bassist David Zablidowsky and seriously injured lead singer Russell Allen, lead guitarist Mike Orlando, drummer Jordan Cannata, Jane Train and the RV's driver, Jason McCole of Wilkes-Barre. Adrenaline Mob was formed in 2011 by Allen, Orlando and former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, and was also the band that former Twisted Sister drummer A.J. Pero performed with when he passed away from a heart attack in 2015.
