Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 17 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

Guests again graced the program this week, as we spoke with Altoona-based heavy rockers Fyre during an interview recorded at McGarvey's in Altoona. We met the band members and learned their story, discussed their music, including their latest CD, III Ghosts and played tracks on the air! Along the way, we debuted a new song from The Bloody Seamen, updated "Local Music News," dug a 2001 song by Balistic from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a tune from Fort Wayne, Indiana-based horror rockers The Lurking Corpses, and reviewed Jonathan Monument's Wonderkid CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SKELL - "Everything's Fine"
ONE ADAM 12 - "Build Me a Bride"
FYRE - "Madness"
PHOBOS ANOMALY - "Breaking in the Tomb of God"
FYRE - "Doctor Doctor"
PENSIVE FEAR - "The Awakening"
FYRE - "Thy Will Be Done"
LADY - "Lullaby"
THE BLOODY SEAMEN - "Take Up Arrrms"
GUN METAL GRAY - "We Are One"

HOUR TWO:

PROGMIUM - "The Beast Within"
INSIDE OUT - "Sacrifice"
FYRE - "Memo"
JONATHAN MONUMENT - "From the Sky"
FYRE - "No Remorse"
BALISTIC - "Into the Grey" (2001, Local Music Flashback)
FYRE - "3 Ghosts"
THE LURKING CORPSES - "Mark of the Devil"

For our next program, it will again be time to check the mailboxes for new recordings that have arrived in recent weeks, so we will be sharing plenty of new tunes with you on the show! We will also dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, step "Across State Lines" to feature a song from an independent band or artist from outside the state, and review Jonah Whale's Mobius CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 15 - Lady
OCT. 29 - Halloween Special
NOV. 5 - Calmly Poisoned
DEC. 24 - Christmas Special
DEC. 31 - 2017 Year in Review Special

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

The Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site near Cresson will "party like it's 1839" when it hosts the 2017 Canal Jam event next weekend. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the historic site, and will feature professional and amateur musicians, storytellers and others interested in traditional American music and other forms of entertainment performed in the "port towns" of the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal during its mid-1800s heyday. Some of the performers include Grammy-winning folk musician and poet Dom Flemons, Bill Hullfish and the Golden Eagle String Band, Dearest Home, Jerry Zolten and Richard Sleigh, and Steve Sherrill. Admission to the event is free, and registered participants will be treated to period-inspired local foods. Registration will be accepted until Thursday (Sept. 21) through the website Altoona.psu.edu/canal-jam.

State College jazz, blues and pop artists Natascha & the Spy Boys are gearing up to record their first full-length CD. The disc will be entitled That's the Hardest Part..., and the group is recording the set at Penn State Music School. The disc will feature six original songs plus a few of their favorite cover songs. The group is completing a crowd-funding campaign to help them record the album, which is slated for an October release.

And the "Homegrown Rocker" sends heartfelt and speedy get-well wishes to Small Town Horror Show keyboardist Mike Henneman, who has been logging hospital time during the past few weeks.
