Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 17 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

With no guests or specials scheduled this week, we took the opportunity to introduce our listeners to lots of new tunes from a number of CD’s and recordings that arrived at “Backyard Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We heard new tunes from Roadkill, Rob Wallace & the Mess, The Saint Cloud, The Green Onions, Kyx, Fellswoop, Inside Out, Fountain of Tears, The Avantgarde, The Programaddicts, Cloverleaf and The Glorious Filaments. We also flashed back to 2001 to play a tune from former area punk rocking force The Keystone Allstars, updated Local Music News, and presented two editions of “The Professor’s CD Corner;” reviewing The Rustlanders’ self-titled CD during the first hour and White Witch’s Never Dies the Dream CD during the second hour. (The reviews can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

GREEN EGGS – “My Band”
HI-TYDE – “One Who Cares”
ROADKILL – “The Public Service Announcement From the Anti Valentine’s Day Council”
ROB WALLACE & THE MESS – “Divine Intervention”
THE SAINT CLOUD – “Lost Without Me”
THE RUSTLANDERS – “Blind Faith”
THE GREEN ONIONS – “Mississippi Moon”
KYX – “I’m Right”
FELLSWOOP – “The Carnies”

HOUR TWO:

INSIDE OUT – “Inside of Me”
END OF THE SUN – “What You Need”
FOUNTAIN OF TEARS – “What Lies Ahead”
WHITE WITCH – “Street Corner Madness”
THE AVANTGARDE – “Mama’s Right”
KEYSTONE ALL STARS – “One for the Road” (2001, Local Music Flashback)
THE PROGRAMADDICTS – “Obsession Tonight”
CLOVERLEAF – “Forever Lost”
THE GLORIOUS FILAMENTS – “Debris”
CHRIS V & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Media Controls the World”

Next Sunday night, we will recap this past weekend’s 12th annual Millennium Music Conference, which took place at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill. Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” was in attendance; and we will feature sound clips from the conference, plus tunes from some of the nearly 300 different bands and artists who showcased in the Harrisburg area during the conference. We’ll also review a CD from one of the showcasing performers in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” The Millennium Music Conference Recap special edition of the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Congratulations to Reading-based singer/songwriter Valerie Nicole, whose CD was drawn from the many recordings submitted to the “Backyard Rocker” during the Millennium Music Conference. Valerie won an interview and guest appearance slot on the March 16 edition of the “Backyard Rocker!”

In Local Music News…

The State College-based blues band BluesMoon has been selected to compete in the 16th Annual Billtown Blues Challenge Festival Audition Concert, which will take place on Sunday, March 30th at the Genetti Hotel Ballroom in Williamsport. The winner will be the opening act for the 19th Annual Billtown Blues Festival on Sunday, June 8th, and will be eligible to represent the Billtown Blues Association at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2009 in the band category. The “Backyard Rocker” wishes singer Trace Baker and BluesMoon the best of luck.

A special benefit concert will happen at the end of next month at The Cantina in Altoona to help out an area youngster battling liver cancer. The Benefit for Chance will take place on Saturday, March 29 at The Cantina, with proceeds helping out 8-year-old Chance Dull from the Bedford area, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. The show will start at 7 PM, and will feature performances from the bands Sever, FedUp, Dick Shack Posse, The Embalmed, Dragon Fire and The Marauders. Donation at the door will be $5, and there will be door prizes and giveaways.

Some students at Mount Union Area High School have organized a day-long benefit concert in April to help out the Red Cross. The Rock4RedCross Benefit will happen on Saturday, April 12 at the Huntingdon County Fairgrounds Grandstand, and will feature a day-long slate of entertainment starting at 10 AM. Bands and performers who are donating their talents on that day include The Potters Band, The Four of Us, Shattered Ice, Among the Voices, Downstairs Push, Take It Further, Gift Of The Hour, Send Her to the Grave, The Hope Fallacy, Biasred, Fancy Nancy, Way Down East, Cyphin and Breanna Sheeder. The rain date for the event will be April 19.

Former “Backyard Rocker” guests, Harrisburg jam rockers Herbie, are set to release a new live album. The album, Left Of Center, will be officially released on March 8 with a special CD release event at the Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg. Herbie will follow up the CD release with a companion DVD release later in the year. The CD is also the group’s first release with new guitarist Andy Mowatt.

And some sad news to report from the northeastern part of the state…John Marshall, the lead singer of popular Lehighton-based cover band Psycho Bettie, died suddenly of natural causes at his home on February 7; he was 42. A special benefit concert to help out John’s surviving family will take place at a venue in Lansford on March 15.
