Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 4 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

Thanks to our guests this week, Indiana-based hard rockers Solegion (www.solegion.com), for an interesting, insightful and rocking two hours! We met the newest members of Solegion, got updated on the group’s happenings, and heard five new songs from them! We also debuted new songs from Slacker Theory, Freakshow and Rob Carlton, updated Local Music News, and reviewed Subdue’s Ununoctium CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

INSIDE OUT – “Taking My Life”
BAD DAZE – “Lost” (performed live 8/07 at Pellegrine’s)
SOLEGION – “Lord of All”
JUSTMEGAN – “This Town”
SOLEGION – “Here Went Hell”
SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
FREAKSHOW – “Tuff Love”
ROB CARLTON – “A Time Such as This”

HOUR TWO:

DEJA VUDOO – “Making Angels Cry”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Jager Shots for Par”
SOLEGION – “Sovereign Mantra”
SUBDUE – “Anhedonia”
SOLEGION – “Familiar Ghosts”
MY TURNING POINT – “In Your Head”
SOLEGION – “Ignition”

Next Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be the Punxsutawney-based band JustMegan! We’ll meet members of JustMegan, and hear tunes from their new CD, I Get What I Want. We’ll also hear tunes from other area bands and artists, update Local Music News, and review a new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner! JustMegan visits the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 18 – Flight 19 (tentative)
MAY 25 – Memorial Day Special
JUNE 1 – Sarah Fleck & the Palpitations
JUNE 8 – Evelyn’s Ashes
JUNE 15 – Father’s Day Special
JUNE 29 – Rockabilly Junction (tentative)

In Local Music News…

We have some news regarding several upcoming benefit shows to report. First, on Saturday, May 17, an all-ages benefit show will take place at the Hollidaysburg Sportsmen’s Club to help out Black River Circus bass player Matt Wise’s infant son, who has run into some medical issues. The Benefit Show for Baby Wise will begin at 4 PM, and feature performances from the Railroad City Outlaws, Archetype, The Useless Underground, The Wagon, The Scraps, Tombstone Radio, Dick Shack Posse, Black River Circus and The AvantGarde. The donation is $20 per person or $30 per couple, and $10 for persons under 21. Food, beverages, raffles and games will be available.

As reported last week, a special benefit show is being organized in northeastern Pennsylvania later this month to help out former and founding Poptart Monkeys guitarist/member Dave Danishefsky. Dave was seriously injured in a March automobile accident near Hazleton, and faces a long road to recovery and mounting medical and other bills. The benefit to help Dave will happen on Sunday, May 18 at the Ramada Inn in Hazleton, and will feature a number of bands, including Rise Phoenix Rise, Shoot the Moon, Kartune, Flaxy Morgan and more. More details about this benefit will be announced shortly.

On Sunday, June 8, Dougie D’s Little Helpers will present a benefit show at the Pinecroft Firehall, with proceeds to help out needy families this coming holiday season. The benefit will run from 12:30 to 5 PM, and feature the bands A Brilliant Return and Spirit Lost. This too will be an all ages benefit, and feature food, refreshments, games and door prizes.

On Saturday, June 14, the Day Of Rock 2008 Benefit for Easter Seals will take place at Shawnee Park in Roaring Spring. This show will run from 12 noon to 10 PM, and will feature performances from the bands Slacker Theory, Blackout, Spirit Lost, Way Down East, Floored-X and Hair Force One. Tickets are $20, and can be obtained at Copy Rite locations in Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Roaring Spring and Huntingdon.

Altoona’s Slacker Theory has found their new bass player. Ryan George takes over the bass position, replacing Paul Greiner, who recently departed the group to join the band This Calling. Slacker Theory has been doing some studio work in recent weeks, and has posted some of the songs on their Myspace site, www.myspace.com/slackertheorymusic.
