Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 8 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

We always appreciate any guests who log any significant traveling miles to be on the program. And given that gasoline prices shot up to near the $4/gallon mark overnight, we definitely appreciate and thank our guests this week, Evelyn’s Ashes, for doing the 3-hour roadtrip in from the York area to be on this week’s program! We met the band members and learned Evelyn’s Ashes’ story to date, and heard songs from the group’s debut CD, Far Away; plus, several lucky listeners called in to win copies! We also debuted new songs from Ride of Armageddon and Turning Point, flashed back to hear a 1993 song by former Altoona rock band Legacy, updated Local Music News, and reviewed Roadkill’s The Wreckoning CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.) Another busy week!

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

DOLLARZ-N-SENSE – “Unsung Hero”
FLIGHT 19 – “Crank It Up”
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Rewind”
CODORUS CRUISE LINE – “Life I Choose”
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Intro/The Innocent”
SLACKER THEORY – “Shake”
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Backdown” (performed live on the air)
EVELYN’S ASHES – “The Hate I Breed”
RIDE OF ARMAGEDDON – “Ride of Armageddon”

HOUR TWO:

SPIRIT LOST – “Alone”
TURNING POINT – “Dirty Money”
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Through His Eyes”
ROADKILL – “The Remaining Days of Zeddska the Elder Canine”
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Tears of Deceit”
LEGACY – “There Comes a Time” (1993, Local Music Flashback)
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Far Away”

Next Sunday night, we celebrate Father’s Day with our annual tribute to the area music scene’s talented musical dads, moms, and their talented kids on the “Father’s Day Special!” We’ll celebrate family tradition by featuring tunes from area parents and their musical children, some tunes featuring both parents and their offspring! We honor local music scene family tradition on the “Father’s Day Special” edition of the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JUNE 15 – Father’s Day Special
JUNE 22 – Rise Phoenix Rise
JUNE 29 – Rockabilly Junction
JULY 6 – G211
JULY 20 – Fast Forward Special

In Local Music News…

The area music scene was saddened by the recent passing of Steve Kimmel, who died on May 28 at the age of 57. Steve was a long-time respected drummer in the area music community, as well as a counselor for the Altoona Area School District for a number of years. Steve was the father of much-acclaimed local drummer Aaron Kimmel. We at Q94 and the “Backyard Rocker” send our heartfelt condolences to Steve’s family and friends.

We send speedy get well wishes to Denise Trautman-Karwoski, the singer for Johnstown classic rockers Red Alert and The Johnstown Classic Rockers. Denise is scheduled to undergo surgery this week.

Again reminding you, next Saturday the Day Of Rock 2008 Benefit for Easter Seals will take place at Shawnee Park in Roaring Spring.
