Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 17 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBXQ 94.3.

Thanks to our guests this week, Johnstown modern reggae/punk/ska rockers Dubmissive (www.dubmissive.net). We met the current lineup of Dubmissive and got caught up on the group’s latest happenings, heard songs from the group’s self-titled CD, as well as two new songs from their forthcoming second CD. We debuted new tunes from The Jellybricks and Corny Poop, updated Local Music News, and reviewed The Glorious Filaments’ debut CD, Silent Use of Algorithm, in “the Professor’s CD Corner.” (The review can be read in the “Backyard Rocker” section of the message board area on Q94’s website, www.wbxq.com.)

Here is this week’s playlist:

HOUR ONE:

LIES, INC. – “Plaster Apparent”
SPIRIT LOST – “Misery of a Wounded Heart”
DUBMISSIVE – “Rebel Song
THE JELLYBRICKS – “Broken Record”
DUBMISSIVE – “Desperation
MY TURNING POINT – “Found My Way”
DUBMISSIVE – “I’m Waiting”
CORNY POOP – “Mompy Weeb”

HOUR TWO:

THE GLORIOUS FILAMENTS – “One Life”
DUBMISSIVE – “Fire of Our Lives”

Next Sunday night, our guest will be Ron Carnevali of the Johnstown Area Heritage Association, paying us a visit to preview this year’s annual Johnstown Folkfest, happening during Labor Day weekend at Festival Park in downtown Johnstown. Ron will give us all the important information and details about this year’s Folkfest, and share music from some of the many bands and artists who will be performing; including Jason and The Scorchers, Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-fonics, Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers, The Marauders and more! A preview of Johnstown Folkfest on the “Backyard Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

Details have been finalized for the 18th annual End Of Summer Jam benefit concert, with proceeds going to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The concert will happen next Sunday, August 24, from noon to 10 PM at Kook’s Kamp, located along Lincoln Road two miles south of Chest Springs. This year’s concert will feature performances from the bands The Red Arrow, Moxie, Sunset Strip, Driving Sideways, Felix & the Hurricanes, Radiofuel, Nitekast and Half Tempted, plus acoustic performers Heavy Radio. Donation is $10 per person, with children under 12 admitted free. Food and refreshments will be available, and parking is free. Coolers will be permitted, but you must be 21 to drink alcoholic beverages on the concert grounds, and legal ID is required. Anybody under 21 must be accompanied by an adult.

Local country performer Ricky Lee has organized his second annual Freedom Concert and ride, to benefit the soldiers of the National VFW’s Military Assistance Program. The concert will take place on Saturday, August 30, from 7 to 10 PM at Lakemont Park in Altoona, and will feature performances from Ricky Lee & the Mustangs with special guest Elvis Aloha from Hawaii. Admission is $10, which includes a Lakemont Ride & Slide pass and a chance to win a free Lazik from Envision Laser Centers. Advance tickets can be purchased at Lakemont Park, local VFW’s, Thompson Pharmacy and Keith’s Country & Western.

After just two months in action, the band Candlelight Red has experienced a change in singers. The group and singer Charlotte Kopp have parted ways, with Charlotte returning to her native Alaska. Replacing her on lead vocals is Greg Locke, who previously worked with both bassist Adam Zimmer and drummer Josh Hetrick in the band In.

The Johnstown-based metal band The Defining Hour is working with a replacement drummer, after drummer Luke Weaver suffered a broken collarbone. While Luke recovers from his injury, Subdue drummer Dan Yuschick will be providing the beats for The Defining Hour.

And after two years and one CD, the band My Turning Point is calling it quits. Group founder Jim Bagrosky announced that the band members are going their separate ways, but that he does have other musical plans in the works.
