Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the Dec. 7 edition of Rocky 104.9's new weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season. (The show will air from 8 to 10 PM after the Steelers' season concludes.)

This week, we delivered another two hours of maximum local and regional music; debuting new tunes from Valerie Nicole, Slacker Theory, OurAfter, Like A Movie, Not Alone, Pastor Brad and Friends, Jeremy dePrisco, Thunderbox, Mercy Nation and Xhibition. We dug a 1996 tune from Blue Skye Mourning from the archives for a “Local Music Flashback,” updated Local Music News, and reviewed Spirit Lost’s debut CD, The New Beginning, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” And since it is the season of giving, we gave away four local music CD prize packs to lucky listeners, featuring discs from Acalasia, Rise Phoenix Rise, Like A Movie, Larry Nath, Sarah Fleck & the Palpitations and Zupe & Nichols. What a busy week!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”
HALESTORM – “Tempest Holy Night”
VALERIE NICOLE – “Wake Up”
RISE PHOENIX RISE – “Dante Maria”
SLACKER THEORY – “Here’s to You”
JULIAN FIST – “Fly Away”
OURAFTER – “Push the Pill”
LIKE A MOVIE – “Wahburgers and French Cries”
NOT ALONE – “Victory”
A BRILLIANT RETURN – “This Is Love”

HOUR TWO:

DUBMISSIVE – “Rebel Song”
CODORUS CRUISE LINE – “Life I Choose”
PASTOR BRAD AND FRIENDS – “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem”
SPIRIT LOST – “The Journey of a Lifetime”
JEREMY DEPRISCO – “Rusty Hearse”
BLUE SKYE MOURNING – “No Words Can Say/Blind” (1996, Local Music Flashback)
THUNDERBOX – “Turnaround”
SARAH FLECK & THE PALPITATIONS – “Copper Shoes”
MERCY NATION – “Prom Queen”
HI-TYDE – “Broken”
XHIBITION – “Rock N Roll Party”

Next Sunday night, our guests in the studio will be Don Hosler and Bill Hughes from the Harrisburg-based band project Xhibition. We’ll find out the story behind Xhibition, hear songs from their debut CD Taking Back the Power, and listeners will have chances to call in and win a copy! We’ll also update Local Music News, and review Thunderbox’s new CD, Concrete and Gasoline, in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Xhibition visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 21 – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL w/JOHN CIMINO (LORDS-A-LEAPING)
DEC. 28 – 2008 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL
FEB. 1 – SUPER BOWL WIDOW’S SPECIAL (THE LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC)

In Local Music News…

Monday, Dec. 8 is the deadline for bands and performers to apply to showcase at next year’s 13th annual Millennium Music Conference. The conference, featuring three days of music industry panels and seminars and four nights of live showcase performances from over 250 bands and artists, will take place from February 12 to 15 of next year at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel and Convention Center in Camp Hill and various performance venues around the Harrisburg area. Bands and artists can apply online to showcase, and can even submit their Myspace websites as applications. For more information on how to apply, visit the website www.musicconference.net.

Following up our story regarding Zupe & Nichols’ hopes for Grammy nominations for their instrumental album Speechless, the duo went 0 for 8 in receiving any Grammy nominations during last Wednesday night’s Grammy nomination ceremonies. But the two musicians are not deterred, and are encouraged that their music was included on the Grammy ballots eight times. Zupe is currently working on two projects that should result in two new releases for next year.

And for fans of Rocky 104.9’s “Big Hair Saturday Night” show, a new 80’s hair-metal/rock group has formed, featuring several Clearfield County music veterans. The Zoo features former Chaos singer Jason Shaffer, along with former My Turning Point guitarist Chris Kane and bassist Paul Cavalier, former Disasterpiece guitarist Jim Force, and Irish transplant Alan Kenny on drums. The Zoo plays 80’s rock from Motley Crue, Tesla, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Cinderella, Guns N’Roses and more. They make their official onstage debut on January 31 at a Reynoldsville nightspot.
