Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the Dec. 14 edition of Rocky 104.9's new weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season. (The show will air from 8 to 10 PM after the Steelers' season concludes.)

During this time of the year, sometimes winter weather can throw a wrench into plans. Such was the case this week on the “Homegrown Rocker,” as complications stemming from this past Thursday’s winter storm prevented our scheduled guests, members of Harrisburg band project Xhibition, from being on the program. (Their appearance has been rescheduled for Jan. 18.) Instead, we took the opportunity to check out some more new music that has arrived in recent weeks; debuting songs from Hale Allen, Mysterytrain, Ryan Matthew, The Essentials, Xhibition and Nate Myers & the Aces. We also dug out a tune by Pittsburgh’s High Voltage from the archives for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Thunderbox’s new CD, Concrete and Gasoline, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” And again since it is the season of giving, we gave away three local music CD prize packs to lucky listeners, featuring discs from Thunderbox, Lords a Leaping, Jackson Monsour, Real Be Easys, Sarah Fleck & the Palpitations and Rhyne McCormick.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ACALASIA – “Contradictory”
LORDS-A-LEAPING – “The Bells of Christmas”
HALE ALLEN – “OK Corral”
CLINT CAROTHERS – “Marseilles”
MYSTERYTRAIN – “Chateau in the Shade” (live)
WISKERBISKET – “Just Like”
NEGATIVE SPACE – “I’ll Be Home”
RYAN MATTHEW – “Outta Here”
THE ESSENTIALS – “She Never Talks to Him”

HOUR TWO:

FLIGHT 19 – “Crank It Up”
ROADKILL – “Santa Is a Big Fat Jerk”
XHIBITION – “Taking Back the Power”
THUNDERBOX – “Novacaine”
SATANIC BAT – “Norse Sagas”
HIGH VOLTAGE – “Fishin’” (1994, Local Music Flashback)
NATE MYERS & THE ACES – “When Are You Coming Home”
61 SOUTH – “Bluesman for Life”
REAL BE EASYS – “Ipso Facto”

Next Sunday night, it’s our annual Christmas Special. We’ll feature two hours of local and regional Christmas music, including local artists’ own original Christmas compositions, and renditions of time-tested classics! We’ll also welcome guests into the studio, as John Cimino and Michael Hughes of Clearfield Christmas music band project Lords a Leaping will discuss their new CD, Lords a Leaping Vol. III; and you’ll have chances to call in to win a copy! We’ll also review Pastor Brad and Friends’ new holiday CD, Heavenly Shred, in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” It’s the annual Christmas Special with guests Lords a Leaping on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 28 – 2008 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL
FEB. 1 – SUPER BOWL WIDOW’S SPECIAL (THE LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC)
FEB. 8 – JOHN CIMINO (THUNDERBOX)
FEB. 15 – COVER SONG SPECIAL
