Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 12 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM.

Thanks to our guests this week; Adam, Jarrod and Kyle of Indiana rockers Solegion (www.myspace.com/solegion); for an interesting and hard-rocking two hours. (Thanks again to The Underground Television for the use of their studio facilities for the interview.) We got updates on the latest Solegion happenings, including the group’s recent signing with Mortal Music, and their plans to head to Dope Studios in Chicago later this month to record their first CD with that label. We heard several early versions of new songs that will be on the upcoming CD. In addition, we updated Local Music News; played a new song by My Inner Animal, reviewed This Calling’s Witness the Fall CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and flashed back to 2000 to hear a tune by Stept On for a Local Music Flashback.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

INSIDE OUT – “Sacrifice”
SPIRIT LOST – “Dreams”
SOLEGION – “My Monster”
WHITE WITCH – “Underneath the Lights”
SOLEGION – “Run Riot”
ZELAZOWA – “Serene”
SOLEGION – “Jagged Line”
MY INNER ANIMAL – “Halo Hello”

HOUR TWO:

44 MAG – “Disfigure”
NINETAIL – “Trials of a Madman”
SOLEGION – “The Blame”
THIS CALLING – “Killbox”
SOLEGION – “The Vicious Vixen”
STEPT ON – “Lonely” (2000, Local Music Flashback)
SOLEGION – “Lord of All”

Originally, our next program was to be another “get caught up” program where we debuted new songs from recordings that arrived in recent weeks. However, an opportunity presented itself to interview members of Hybrid Ice, who will be returning to the Altoona area to perform at the Lakemont Park Wing-Off July 23; the group’s first Altoona appearance since the ‘90s! Via phone, we will find out the latest from Hybrid Ice, we will debut tracks from the group’s new CD, Mind’s Eye, and we’ll hear past Hybrid Ice tunes as well! We will also update Local Music News, feature music from a past band for a Local Music Flashback, and review Iroquois Confederacy’s CD, The Left-Handed Peace Pipe, in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Members of Hybrid Ice join us via phone on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JULY 26 – NICK FINOCHIO
AUG. 2 – SKELL
AUG. 9 – THE GRIMM
SEPT. 12 – SAMARA

In Local Music News…

Live music will again be a part of the 16th annual African American Heritage Festival, happening on Saturday, July 25 at Penn State Altoona. Headlining the festivities will be the return of Scranton-based Motown tribute band Lady "A" & Destiny. Also performing at the festival will be Tropical Duo, performing Caribbean music, solo artist Henry Hansard, music and storytelling troupe Legacy of Weyanoke, and gospel group the Men Of Zion. The festival begins at 12 noon, and admission is free.

Music from Pittsburgh's Norman Nardini and Zack Wiesinger will be used in an upcoming motion picture. The movie, The Bridge to Nowhere, which is being filmed in Pittsburgh, will feature Norman's song "Rock & Roll City," as well as an instrumental track by Zack Wiesinger that Norman produced, "Zack's Blues." The instrumental features Zack playing guitar with Norman Nardini's rhythm section of Harry Bottoms and former drummer Whitey Cooper.

And The Clarks unveiled their new CD last month. Restless Days is now available. The Clarks have announced new summer tour dates, including their annual visit to Altoona’s Railroaders Museum on September 16.
