Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 9 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, local modern rockers Lies, Inc. (www.myspace.com/liesinc). The group introduced their new singer, Scott Walk, and we got both Scott’s and the band’s views on their future. We heard tracks from Lies, Inc.’s 2006 debut EP, Statistics, plus introduced some previously unheard song material recorded last year. We also highlighted a 1997 song from one of Scott’s former bands, Delirium, for a Local Music Flashback. In addition, we updated Local Music News, played a new song by Sound Of Silence, and reviewed Hybrid Ice’s Mind’s Eye CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

GREEN EGGS – “My Band”
SHERRI MULLEN – “Fearless”
LIES, INC. – “Blink of an Eye”
EVELYN’S ASHES – “Rewind”
LIES, INC. – “Don’t Blink”
THE GRIMM – “Raise the Line”
LIES, INC. – “Hypnotic”
INSIDE OUT – “Demons Inside”
SOUND OF SILENCE – “Satisfied”

HOUR TWO:

AFTER THE FALL – “Bloody Mary”
SKELL – “No Solution”
LIES, INC. – “Flawed”
HYBRID ICE – “Stop Searching”
LIES, INC. – “Atomic Skies”
DELIRIUM – “Lost Innocence” (1997, Local Music Flashback)
LIES, INC. – “Plaster Apparent”
WAY DOWN EAST – “Deep In My Head”

This Sunday night, with no guests scheduled, we will use the opportunity to get caught up on new local and regional recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update Local Music News, review a new local CD or two in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig into the local music archives for another “Local Music Flashback!” It will be maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 23 – GUITAR HEROES OF LOCAL MUSIC SPECIAL
SEPT. 13 – SAMARA
SEPT. 20 – MATT SHEEDY
OCT. 11 – HOMEGROWN ROCKER 1ST ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL

In Local Music News…

The band line-up has been announced for the 19th annual End Of Summer Jam benefit concert, taking place on Sunday, August 30, at Kook’s Korner near Chest Springs. The show will feature performances from the Steam City Riders, Jeff Perigo Opus, Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band, Rapid Fire, Half Tempted, Nitekast and Sunset Strip. Listen to Rocky 104.9 in coming days for more details on the concert, whose proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

The Victory In Heaven Blues Band’s new studio CD is now completed, and will be officially released on August 25. The album is available for advance orders by mail. Check out the group’s Myspace website, www.myspace.com/victoryinheavenband, for information on obtaining a copy.

Pittsburgh legend Norman Nardini and his music are appearing in another movie. The group was filmed by renowned screenwriter and director Jack Russo, who is associated with the 1968 horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Norman and his band, along with Pittsburgh blues singer Shari Richards, appear in the film, which is an instructional production for Russo’s movie-making program at Dubois Business College in Dubois. Shari Richards portrays an up-and-coming R&B singer who is pursued by an obsessive and dangerous fan, and Norman has a supporting role as her husband and bandleader.

An update regarding some former members of Saxton rockers Fayted…Former Fayted singer Josh Lockard, guitarist Kenton Sitch and drummer Zac Grace have joined forces with lead guitarist Brian and rhythm guitarist Mitch Neider to form a new group called Shallow 9. The group will do mostly modern rock favorites, and will make their onstage debut on Halloween, October 31, at a Huntingdon County venue.
