Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 20 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

We originally were to have guests this week, Matt Sheedy and his new band The Ruins, but last-minute complications scuttled those plans. So in lieu of a guest, we maximized local and regional music over the show’s two hours. We debuted a few new tunes from Matt Sheedy, The Clarks, Camela Widad Kraemer, Jackie Kopco, Flatbed Ford, Gina Riggio, The Sunflower Spectacle, Charlie Wheeler Band and Halestorm We also updated Local Music News, reviewed the Victory In Heaven Blues Band’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and heard a 1999 song by Nevermore for a “Local Music Flashback.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

WAY DOWN EAST – “Modern Day Outlaws”
FLIGHT 19 – “Unlock”
MATT SHEEDY – “Tomorrow’s Gonna Come”
THE BUSTED DRUNKS – “The Ballad of the Kingsmen” (performed live on air 7/5/09)
THE CLARKS – “Soul and Skin”
TRIPP McNEELY – “Stripped”
CAMELA WIDAD KRAEMER – “Back to Reality”
JACKIE KOPCO – “Adam”
FLATBED FORD – “Tongue Twister”
A BRILLIANT RETURN – “This Is Love”
GINA RIGGIO – “The Cure for Everything”

HOUR TWO:

DAVE DISTEFANO w/GRINNING MOB – “Light the Fire, Get Down”
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “Shine”
THE SUNFLOWER SPECTACLE – “I’m A Ghost. No, I’m a Monster” (performed live 1/30/09 at Satori Gallery, Johnstown)
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “Mother Earth”
CHARLIE WHEELER BAND – “In a Daydream”
NEVERMORE – “Still” (1999, Local Music Flashback)
HALESTORM – “Innocence”
ZELAZOWA – “Boneyard Destination”
WE ARE FOREVER – “Point Taken”

This Sunday night, we welcome via phone the return of frequent flyer guest Sterling Koch! After temporarily stepping away from live stages earlier this year due to health issues, Sterling has completed and released a new CD from one of his previous projects, the Victory In Heaven Blues Band. We’ll hear Sterling’s thoughts on the new disc, and hear songs from it. We’ll also update Local Music News, review Shattered Ice’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig into the local music archive for another “Local Music Flashback!” Sterling Koch visits us via phone on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

A special benefit show has been announced to help out a local musician. “Benefit Marty” will raise money to help with medical expenses incurred by Scraps singer Marty “Scrap” Tagliati, who has been battling several medical issues and has been bedridden in a Pittsburgh Hospital through much of this year. The show will take place on Friday night, October 2, at Aldo’s in Juniata, and will feature performances from The AvantGarde, Dick Shack Posse, The Side Effects and special guests.

After an 8-year run on area stages, Huntingdon County rockers Cyphin have called it quits. Several of the group’s members have decided to move on to other projects.

Altoona’s Acalasia is preparing to issue their new CD. A six-song EP, Speak For No One is slated for its official release on October 14. Acalasia will premiere songs from the new disc when they visit the “Homegrown Rocker” October 11.

A new band has formed from the ashes of two former Cambria County bands. Flat Line merges former Radiofuel singer/guitarist Jim Veazey with the former roster of Tie Down after the departure of their singer, Scott Walk. Flat Line’s first scheduled live appearance will be on Halloween night at a Cresson area venue.

Two Centre County bands have announced new bass players…G211 have announced that Barry Hamilton, formerly of A.C. Express, has taken over bottom end duties. Barry replaces Big Jim Ricotta, who left the group recently. The group is currently playing as a trio.

And State College hard rockers Represent The Lie have announced their new bass player. Former Pushing Red bassist Chris Walter will take over for the departing Rich Cupillari. Chris will make his onstage debut with Represent The Lie next Saturday night at a Lewistown venue.

Guitarist Dan Johnstone recently parted ways with State College folk/punk rockers The Clover. The group continues to perform as a foursome.
