Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 27 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season.

Thanks to our guest via phone this week, Sterling Koch. Sterling Koch updated us on his latest happenings, including the release of his brand new Victory In Heaven Blues Band (www.myspace.com/victoryinheavenband) self-titled CD. We discussed the CD and its creation, and heard several tracks from it. We also debuted new songs from Mysterytrain, Mycenea Worley and Element Of Surprise. In addition, we updated Local Music News, reviewed Shattered Ice’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and ventured back to 1986 to hear a tune by Centre County’s Amicitia for a Local Music Flashback.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Issues”
THE CLOVER – “One Part Whiskey”
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “City of Refuge”
MYSTERYTRAIN – “Fire Dancin’ Maiden” (performed live 7/11/09 at Potluck Picnic, PPG Pavilion)
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “Change It”
CONNER GILBERT – “Since You’ve Been Away”
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “Goin’ Over the Hill”
MYCENEA WORLEY – “Nothing Like I Thought”
ELEMENT OF SURPRISE – “Endless Summers and Wishful Thinking”

HOUR TWO:

KEN GRAY – “Saving Grace”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “The Devil Knows My Name”
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “Down Don’t Bother Me”
SHATTERED ICE – I’m Not In Love”
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “Only Do Wrong for So Long”
AMICITIA – “Rock Ya Tonite” (1986, Local Music Flashback)
VICTORY IN HEAVEN BLUES BAND – “The Sun Will Shine”

This Sunday night, the “Homegrown Rocker” will take a week off, as the show is being pre-empted by the Pittsburgh Steelers as they face San Diego in a Sunday night game. (Go Steelers!) The show will return the following Sunday, October 11, to celebrate the first anniversary at our new broadcast home, Rocky 104.9! We will celebrate by featuring several highlights from the past year on the program. And we will also have guests, as Acalasia joins us in the studio to update their latest happenings and introduce songs from their new 6-song EP! We’ll also update Local Music News, feature music from a past band for a Local Music Flashback, and review Skyfall’s Scenes CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Acalasia visits when the “Homegrown Rocker” returns Sunday night, October 11!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 18 – DUBMISSIVE
OCT. 25 – WHITE WITCH (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
NOV. 1 – KEN GRAY
NOV. 15 – FOURTH DIMENSION AUDIO SHOWCASE

In Local Music News…

News regarding drummers tops our look at Local Music News. Altoona’s Mark Panek recently parted ways with the Chris Woodward Band, and has joined the band of Johnstown-based country artist George Lucas. Mark has also taken a hiatus from Pennsylvania industrial rockers False Icons, who will be using a fill-in drummer over the next several months.

Bad Daze will be rocking to the beat of a different drummer temporarily, as Jim Bagrosky is undergoing shoulder surgery and will be sidelined for at least 4 to 6 weeks, and possibly longer. One of the group’s former drummers, Harry Rainey, will take over behind the kit in the interim.

And the “Homegrown Rocker” welcomes the Altoona arrival of singer, songwriter and musician Conner Gilbert, who was recently hired on as the new sports information director at Penn State Altoona.
