Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 11 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

It was a celebration on this week’s show, as the “Homegrown Rocker” marked its first full year on Rocky 104.9. We celebrated by featuring music by a number of bands and artists who were guests over the past year, including several songs that were performed live on the air. We also had band guests – thanks to Altoona’s Acalasia (www.myspace.com/acalasia), who previewed their brand new 6-song EP, Speak For No One, and provided insight on the songs and their career. (They need a drummer; anyone interested get in touch!) We also updated Local Music News, debuted a new song by The Badlees, reviewed Skyfall’s Scenes CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and pulled out a 1995 song by Riot Act for a “Local Music Flashback.” What a party!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THUNDERBOX – “Novacaine”
LIES, INC. – “Blink of an Eye”
ACALASIA – “Tell Me How to Be”
ZELAZOWA – “Autumn”
ACALASIA – “Fire Away”
HYBRID ICE – “Bring the Gold”
ACALASIA – “Save Me”
STEAM CITY RIDERS – “Doubt Trouble and Woe” (performed live on the air 4/19/09)
THE BADLEES – “Anodyne”
CHRIS VIPOND & THE STANLEY STREET BAND – “False Flags”

HOUR TWO:

THE HUMAN ENGINE – “Sistine Sister” (performed live on the air 4/5/09)
NICK FINOCHIO – “So Clear” (performed live on the air 7/26/09)
ACALASIA – “Paint These Smiles On”
SKYFALL – “Bullet Holes”
ACALASIA – “Take It or Leave It”
RIOT ACT – “In My Soul” (1995, Local Music Flashback)
ACALASIA – “Wherever You Are”
THE BUSTED DRUNKS – “Ballad of the Kingsmen” (performed live on the air 7/5/09)

This Sunday night, we launch the show’s second year by welcoming into the studio Johnstown reggae, punk and roots-rockers Dubmissive! We’ll find out the latest Dubmissive happenings, hear new recorded tunes from the group, and they’ll bring instruments and play a few live for us as well! We’ll also update Local Music News, review My Inner Animal’s The Revelry CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig into the local music archive for another “Local Music Flashback!” Dubmissive visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

OCT. 25 – WHITE WITCH (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
NOV. 1 – KEN GRAY
NOV. 15 – FOURTH DIMENSION AUDIO SHOWCASE
NOV. 29 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS FOOTBALL)
DEC. 20 – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
DEC. 27 – 2009 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL

In Local Music News…

Sad news from the Lancaster area, regarding the passing of a member of one of that town’s most legendary bands…Sam “Lugar” Rawhauser, the guitarist and lead singer of the Lancaster-based new wave band The Sharks, died Thursday of complications from lung cancer. Sam and The Sharks were prominent on regional stages through much of the ‘80s and early ‘90s. In 1985, they won MTV’s “Basement Tapes” contest for the song “On My Own,” which led to a contract with Elektra Records. Sam leaves behind a wife and 25-year-old son.

Local composer and performer Zupe reports good news for one of the songs on his latest CD with Dave Nichols, Speechless. The track “A Dash of Dementia” will be used on a major cable network show later this year. Details are still being ironed out, and we will report more on this as information becomes available.

Norman Nardini has completed production on the song “The Blues Come Blowin In,” with the addition of some muted cornet by Steel City Brass Band member Mark Custer. This song will be heard as the credits roll on Jack Russo’s new short film, Song of the Dead. That film will be featured on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, during the 2nd Annual Living Dead Festival in Evans City. EDCO Park in Evans City was the filming site for George Romero’s cult classic Night of the Living Dead. Norman Nardini will be performing at 7 p.m. with a special screening of Song of the Dead to follow.
