Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 18 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season.

Thanks to our guests this week, Johnstown punk, reggae and roots rockers Dubmissive (www.myspace.com/dubmissive). We got acquainted with the band’s current line-up, learned about their recent evolution toward a more acoustic direction, and heard recorded tracks from them. The guys also brought instruments and performed two new unplugged songs live on the air! We also debuted new songs from The Clarks, The Badlees, Ledbetter Heights, Miz, Mindspine and Conner Gilbert. In addition, we updated Local Music News, reviewed My Inner Animal’s The Revelry CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and noted the recent passing of Sam Lugar of The Sharks with one of their songs from 1986 for a Local Music Flashback.

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE CLARKS – “Trampoline”
THE BADLEES – “Radio at Night”
DUBMISSIVE – “Rebel Song”
LEDBETTER HEIGHTS – “Still Fighting”
DUBMISSIVE – “Exodus”
KEN GRAY – “Saving Grace”
DUBMISSIVE – “Lost in Translation” (performed live on the air)
MIZ – “NYC Skyline”
MINDSPINE – “Forgotten You”

HOUR TWO:

RYAN MATTHEW – “Steeler Fan”
THE HOPE FALLACY – “Behind Closed Doors”
DUBMISSIVE – “I’m Waiting”
MY INNER ANIMAL – “The Manic Literacy (Part 1)”
DUBMISSIVE – “Jonesy” (performed live on the air)
THE SHARKS – “On My Own” (1986, Local Music Flashback)
DUBMISSIVE – “Fire of Our Lives”
CONNER GILBERT – “Get Up”

This Sunday night, it’s our annual Halloween Special! We’ll spotlight performers and songs with a Halloween theme, and welcome such a band into the studio when White Witch pays us a visit! We’ll also update Local Music News, feature music from a past band for a Local Music Flashback, and review another new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” White Witch, and things that go bump in the night, on the Halloween Special edition of the “Homegrown Rocker” this Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

The British Invasion is coming to an end. Altoona-based rock band The British Invasion, who has specialized in performing British rock of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s for the past three years, is finishing out their time on area stages through the end of November. Their final show will be on Saturday, November 28, during the annual Mya’s Miracle Autism Benefit at Altoona’s Bavarian Hall. In the aftermath, guitarist Rick Wertz and drummer Beau Saller are starting a new band, tentatively called Onex, which will be geared toward ‘80s and ‘90s dance music.

Several members of Altoona modern rockers A Brilliant Return have formed a new Christian ska band project. The group is called Gordie B and the Turtletones, and more details on this project will be forthcoming.

The band formerly known as My Friend Frankie has a new line-up and new name. The new name is Threeway, and the group features Candi on bass and lead vocals, J.C. on guitars and former Camino Sky drummer Dave Wessels.

The first twenty showcasing acts are being announced this week for the 14th annual Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg. Those acts are being selected from groups who submitted showcase applications to Sonicbids prior to an earlybird June 30 deadline. There is still time left for other bands and performers interested in performing at the conference, which happens from Thursday through Sunday, February 18-21 at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center in Camp Hill. The final deadline for showcase submissions is December 8. For more information about the conference and how to apply to showcase, visit the conference’s website at www.musicconference.net.
