Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the December 6 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, Indiana blues rockers Four Day Crawl (www.fourdaycrawl.com), for an entertaining and insightful two hours. We met the band members and learned the group’s story, and discussed and played songs from their debut CD, Overdue; several lucky listeners called in to win their own copies! Since Four Day Crawl guitarist/singer Jimmy Roach was in the studio, we dug out a song from Jimmy’s past, featuring a 1989 song by Jimmy and Bitter Route for a “Local Music Flashback.” We also debuted new songs by Billy Price & Fred Chapellier, Mycenea Worley and Veinmelter; updated Local Music News, and reviewed Matt Otis’ Home From Home CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

GLENN PAVONE & THE CYCLONES – “Shake That Thing”
BILLY PRICE & FRED CHAPELLIER – “Who You’re Workin’ For”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “Ike Willis Blues”
JIMMY ADLER – “Smoke Signals”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “The Devil Knows My Name”
MYCENEA WORLEY – “Low”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “WacArnolds”

HOUR TWO:

MARTINI BROS. – “Santa Claus Is Back in Town”
VEINMELTER – “Gunshy”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “Gunga Din on the Rock & Roll Hiway”
MATT OTIS – “Padlocked Door”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “Cheap Wine & Chitlins”
BITTER ROUTE – “Chrome” (1989, Local Music Flashback)
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “Mean”
THE RUSTLANDERS – “My Rock N Roll”

Originally, we were to have a band guest on this Sunday’s show, but that has fallen through. But the loss of a musical guest will be your gain, as we get caught up on new releases that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks, and celebrate the Christmas spirit of giving by giving away local music CD and T-shirt prize packs! We’ll also update Local Music News, review another new local/regional CD or two in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dig into the local music archive for another “Local Music Flashback!” Maximum local and regional music, plus your chances to call in and win this Sunday on the “Homegrown Rocker!”

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

DEC. 20 – CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
DEC. 27 – 2009 YEAR IN REVIEW SPECIAL
JAN. 3 – A CRUCIFYING FEELING
FEB. 28 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE RECAP SPECIAL
MAR. 7 – JACKSON MONSOUR

In Local Music News…

Sad news emerged from Johnstown last weekend with the unexpected passing of Chris Klym on November 27 at age 56. Chris was a respected and vastly talented drummer who could play in a variety of styles; including rock, jazz, blues, folk, country and more. Chris performed in numerous Johnstown area bands over the years; including Kindred Spirit, Who’s Your Daddy, Frankie & the Nomads, Trick Bag Soul, Ribbon Grass, The Desperadoes, The Conniptions, the Jenny Drummey Band, and most recently, Tree. We at Rocky and the "Homegrown Rocker" express our condolences to Chris' surviving family, friends and musical associates.

The Verge has found their new drummer to replace Steve Brullia, who is leaving the band at year's end. Former Dragon Fire drummer Steve Stuckey will take over behind The Verge's drum kit starting in January.

Middletown singer/songwriter Sherri Mullen has announced that she is shelving her solo and group performances for the time being, to focus attention on her ongoing project with her son, Shane Mullen, called SM². The duo is recording a new CD with producer Jason Rubal along with a video, and both should be available in April.

This Tuesday, December 8, is the deadline for bands and artists to submit applications to perform at the 14th annual Millennium Music Conference, happening February 18 through 21 in the Harrisburg area. Applications can be submitted online via Sonicbids or Acteva, or sent through the U.S. Postal Service. There is a $20 application fee. The selections of showcasing bands and artists at the conference will be announced starting on December 15. The Millennium Music Conference will take place at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center in Camp Hill; and will feature three days of music business keynote speakers, panel discussions, clinics, workshops, mentoring, a trade show and showcase performances throughout the Harrisburg area. For more information about the conference, visit their website, www.musicconference.net.

And some good news regarding Emily’s Toybox drummer Wade Corbin, who was seriously injured in an automobile crash two weeks ago. According to comments made by the group’s singer, Mike Wise, on Emily’s Toybox’s web site, Wade was transferred from the hospital to a rehab hospital this past week. He has regained consciousness after being placed under sedation after the accident due to a severe head injury. He was not speaking yet, but is said to be alert. For the latest updates regarding Wade’s condition, visit Emily’s Toybox’s website, www.emilystoybox.com/wade.
