Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 3 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Pittsburgh Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guest via phone, Paris Kalamaras of Philadelphia-based rockers A Crucifying Feeling (www.myspace.com/acrucifyingfeeling). Paris introduced us to the band, gave us their story and got inside their music. We heard tracks from A Crucifying Feeling’s debut CD, From Dust to Life, and several lucky listeners called in to win their own copies! We also updated Local Music News, debuted new tunes from The Embalmed and It Is Written, reviewed Not Alone’s My Incurable Obsession CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dug into the local music archive for a 1993 song by State College’s Lovefry for a “Local Music Flashback!”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

SOUND DRIVEN – “Antelopium”
SHAME – “New Year’s Day”
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “The Pumpkin Method”
SLACKER THEORY – “Hopeless”
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “Strapped”
SPIRIT LOST – “The Burden of Life”
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “Mature Sunflower”
VOICE OF CHAOS – “Crash Course”
THE EMBALMED – “Heaven Below”

HOUR TWO:

PHOBOS ANAMOLY – “Reassembly”
SPOONCHATTER – “11:00 pm”
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “Faking Bliss”
NOT ALONE – “Blinded”
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “Unhappy”
LOVEFRY – “Beat” (1993, Local Music Flashback)
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “Enema”
IT IS WRITTEN – “Remains”

With the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season now over, the “Homegrown Rocker” will return to its 8-10 PM time slot beginning with the next show this Sunday night. With no guests scheduled, we’ll pack the show with maximum local and regional tunes and minimal talk. We’ll debut some new music that has arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks, update Local Music News, feature another “Local Music Flashback” and review Camela Widad Kraemer’s Before You’re Gone CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner!” Maximum local and regional music guaranteed on the “Homegrown Rocker” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

JAN. 17 – MINDSPINE
JAN. 24 – THE EMBALMED
JAN. 31 – CONNER GILBERT
FEB. 7 – SUPER BOWL WIDOW’S SPECIAL (THE LADIES OF LOCAL MUSIC)

In Local Music News…

Pittsburgh heavy rockers Icarus Witch have landed the opening slot on the U.S. concert tour of original Iron Maiden singer Paul DiAnno. The tour begins on January 27 in New York City. Icarus Witch is also gearing up to release a new CD shortly.

The changing of years always means "out with the old, and in with the new." In that spirit, we report the exit of one band, and the start of a new one. Lewistown rock and party force Wiskerbisket bowed out with their New Year's Eve show, ending a nine-year run on regional stages. The group closed things out in their home base of Lewistown, with a New Years Eve show at the Bierhaus. The band members are expected to pursue new projects.

The New Year begins with a new '80s hair band rock group hitting area stages. 80 Proof features several seasoned vets of Cambria County stages, including former Sunset Strip and Hair Force One drummer Jared Michaels, former Sunset Strip guitarist Mel Deneen, former NE146 member Paul Hearn on bass, and Mike Prebehalla on vocals. 80 Proof made their official onstage debut this past weekend at the Castle Pub in Ebensburg.

And two bass players are stepping aside from their respective bands. Andy Rhody is stepping away from the band White Shadow and is retiring after 41 years on live stages. Meanwhile, Mike Fahy is leaving Johnstown-based metal rockers The Defining Hour.
