Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the January 24 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, Jason Straw and Greg Hatch of Johnstown heavy metal specialists The Embalmed (www.myspace.com/theembalmed.) We discussed in detail The Embalmed’s brand new CD, What Would Judas Do and its creation, and heard several tracks from the disc. With Jason in the house, we dug back to 2004 to hear a tune from his and brother Chad Straw’s band at the time, Deviance, for a “Local Music Flashback.” We also debuted new tunes from The Chance and Voice Of Chaos, updated Local Music News, and reviewed A Crucifying Feeling’s From Dust to Life CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

PIVOT – “Redefine”
SPIRIT LOST – “Mistrust”
THE EMBALMED – “What Would Judas Do”
THE CHANCE – “Turning Inside”
THE EMBALMED – “Year of the Jackal”
SOUND OF SILENCE – “Satisfied”
THE EMBALMED – “Heaven Below”

HOUR TWO:

SOLEGION – “Sovereign Mantra”
VOICE OF CHAOS – “Echoes of War”
THE EMBALMED – “Grave Depression”
A CRUCIFYING FEELING – “Warfarin”
THE EMBALMED – “Enemy of the Family”
DEVIANCE – “Confession” (2004, Local Music Flashback)
THE EMBALMED – “Deathlehem”

This Sunday night, our guest will be local newcomer, singer and songwriter Conner Gilbert! Recently following his career path to the Altoona area, Conner will discuss his music and career to date, and we’ll hear tunes from his debut CD, The View From Within; plus you’ll have chances to call in to win a copy! We’ll also update Local Music News, feature another “Local Music Flashback” and review The Sketties’ Up?!? Yes!! CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner!” Conner Gilbert visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

In Local Music News…

Former Pennsylvania-based national recording act Dirty Looks has reissued their first 3 indie recordings, which were first issued before their signing with Atlantic Records in the ‘80s. The recordings; Dirty Looks, I Want More and In Your Face, have been reissued with bonus tracks, never-before released photos and lyrics, and new cover art. The reissues can be obtained through the website www.fnarecords.net. Dirty Looks is currently at work on a new studio album, called I.C.U., which should be available later this year.

State College heavy metal group Judgement Shall Pass have announced a new lead singer. Tim Knapton takes over lead throat duties for the group.

And we want to again remind everyone about Monday night’s concert at Saint Francis University to help out the earthquake relief efforts. Saint Francis University’s Fine Arts Department will present “A Concert For Haiti 2010” Monday evening at 8 p.m. in the JFK Student Center. The concert will feature Jim Donovan’s Drum the Ecstatic International and the Saint Francis University World Drumming Ensemble. Donovan, drummer and founding member of the platinum-selling band “Rusted Root,” is organizing the effort and will perform in the concert. Cash donations will be taken at the door, with a suggested minimum donation of $5 for students and children under 12 and a $10 general public.
