Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the February 14 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Since it was Valentine’s Day, we devoted this week’s show to all the broken hearts in the listening audience who agree that the only person who knew how to celebrate the day properly was Al Capone…It was the first-ever installment of the “Homegrown Rocker Love Stinks Special!” For two hours, we spotlighted area bands’ and musicians’ song creations about break-ups, putdowns, relationships gone awry and more. Along the way, we debuted a new tune from Karen and Amy Jones, updated Local Music News, and reviewed Black~n~Blues’ self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” And we remembered the recently deceased Warren King of Diamond Reo by digging a 1976 classic by the group from the archives for a “Local Music Flashback.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ROADKILL – “Public Service Announcement from the Anti-Valentine’s Day Council”
THE CLARKS – “Better Off Without You”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Little Ears”
NORMAN NARDINI – “Heartbreak Shake” (live)
SPITSHINE – “I-H8-U”
VS. THE EARTH – “Goodbye to You”
SHERRI MULLEN – “Now You’ll Hurt”
VALERIE NICOLE – “Fed Up”
RHYNE McCORMICK – “Out of Love”
J.D. STRUM – “The Drag”
KAREN AND AMY JONES – “The Things That He Breaks”

HOUR TWO:

HALESTORM – “Nothing to Do with Love”
SPIRIT LOST – “Mistrust”
MYCENEA WORLEY – “Low”
BLACK~N~BLUES – “Tables Turn”
WHITE WITCH – “Singleman”
DIAMOND REO – “Boys Will Be Boys” (1976, Local Music Flashback)
LITTLE BUDDY – “Dig Dig Dig (My Wife’s Digging My Grave)”
FOUR DAY CRAWL – “Nothing Left to Call My Own”
THE EMBALMED – “Heartworm”

This Sunday night, we’ll take the opportunity to get caught up on some of the new local and regional CD releases that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update Local Music News, feature another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Rob Carlton’s Beautiful Collision CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner!” It will be two hours of maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

FEB. 28 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE RECAP SPECIAL
MAR. 7 – JACKSON MONSOUR
MAR. 14 – KAJ
MAR. 21 – MILLENNIUM MUSIC CONFERENCE CONTEST WINNER

In Local Music News…

Dirty Looks bassist Gregory Pianka was killed in a bar stabbing earlier this month, and his alleged assailant has been arrested. The incident happened on Friday, February 5 at a pub located across the street from Waldameer Park & Water World in Erie. According to www.dirtylookseurope.com, Pianka joined Dirty Looks last year and was working on the band's upcoming CD I.C.U. Pianka was 35, and had played bass for several other Erie area bands prior to Dirty Looks.

The last founding member of popular local rock'n'roll oldies act The Fabulous Flashbacks is stepping away from the group after 22 years. Singer and guitarist Don Trullender will play his last show with the Flashbacks at a special send-off party on Friday night, March 5, at the Bavarian Hall in Altoona.

A popular Pittsburgh area live music venue is closing its doors at the end of this month. The Rhythm House Café in Bridgeville is closing its doors after 9 years to make way for a Get-Go. The last show there happens Feb. 27; a benefit for the Grady's All Stars Trust Fund featuring Donnie Iris, Joe Grushecky, B.E. Taylor, Scott Blasey, Bill Deasy, and Velveeta. The Rhythm House hosted various Pittsburgh area bands over the years, a few national touring acts such as Quiet Riot and Warrant, and also popular regional band names like Velveeta and Green Eggs.

A popular Centre County musician is in the running to become an opening act at Williamsport's prestigious Billtown Blues Festival in June. John "JT Blues" Thompson will compete in the "Solo/Duo" competition of the Billtown Blues Challenge, which happens on Sunday, March 13 at the Genetti Hotel Ballroom in Williamsport. Winners from the individual and band competitions of this event will also become eligible to represent the Billtown Blues Association in the annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis. For more information about the Billtown Blues Challenge, visit the Billtown Blues Association website at www.billtownblues.org.

Vs. the Earth has released a brand new CD. The CD, called It's All the Little Things, was officially issued on Friday. The group will celebrate the CD's release next Saturday when they perform at the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, and Altoona fans can check out the new disc next Sunday when the group returns to the area to perform at Pellegrine's.
