Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 7 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Wow, what a week! The show’s host was stoked about this week’s program for two primary reasons. First, the first Sunday in March marks another anniversary for this show launching onto Altoona airwaves. The first program debuted in March 1998 as a one-hour program on a now-extinct Altoona area radio station, and expanded to its current two-hour form a year later. In October, 2008, the “Homegrown Rocker” made its debut on Rocky 104.9. Now, as we marked the program’s twelfth anniversary on air, we announced another step forward on this week’s show…Starting next Sunday night, March 14, the “Homegrown Rocker” will take flight on a second station, our sister radio station on the other side of the mountain, Rocky 99.1 in Johnstown! So listeners in Johnstown, Somerset, and throughout a large chunk of southwestern Pennsylvania will have the opportunity to discover what the area and state music scenes have to offer!

After our originally-scheduled guest for tonight’s show requested a postponement of his appearance, we dedicated this week’s show to getting caught up on new recordings that arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks, as well as other recordings submitted to the program during the recent Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg. We debuted new songs from Scorched, Knotfal, Vs. the Earth, Lotus Hill, The Slackwater News, Close to Consideration, Face Down In High Water (FDH20) and Faith In Exile. We reviewed Johnny Action Figure’s Good Eye CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” We checked out a 1989 song by Brass Tactics for a “Local Music Flashback.” And we debuted a new feature on this week’s show, “Cross State Lines,” where we showcase a song from an independent band or artist from out of state; a song by northern New Jersey’s New Day Dawn kicked off this new feature! As said earlier, what a week!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CONNER GILBERT – “Get Up”
JACKSON MONSOUR – “Criminally Insane”
SCORCHED – “Frozen Inside”
HAROLD TADDY – “Canada’s Niagara”
KNOTFAL – “Curly Friday”
VS. THE EARTH – “The Passing of Theodore Reilly”
LOTUS HILL – “Forward Yesterday”
GANISTER – “Saving Grace”
THE SLACKWATER NEWS – “Fish in a Bowl”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Issues”

HOUR TWO:

INSIDE OUT – “Demons Inside”
SICKLEEYE – “Tremble”
CLOSE TO CONSIDERATION – “Welcome to Reality”
JOHNNY ACTION FIGURE – “Bushkill Hill”
FACE DOWN IN HIGH WATER (FDH20) – “Tide”

NEW DAY DAWN – “Misunderstood” (Cross State Lines feature)

THIS CALLING – “A Taste of Victory”
THE EMBALMED – “Deathlehem”

On our next program, as the “Homegrown Rocker” debuts in Johnstown, our guests will be the Kittanning-based rock band Kaj! We’ll meet the band members, and hear recorded tracks from the group, including tunes from their forthcoming new CD! We’ll also update Local Music News, feature another “Local Music Flashback,” and review another new local/regional CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner!” Kaj visits the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

In Local Music News…

Less than four months after being suffering a serious head injury and nearly losing his life in a vehicle accident, Wade Corbin is back behind the drum kit of regional party band powerhouse Emily’s Toybox. Wade returned to action late last month. He and Emily’s Toybox return to State College later this month; check the group’s website, [ur]www.emilystoybox.com[/url], for details.

More details have been announced regarding the upcoming 6th annual Jeff Wallack Memorial Jam. The event will take place on Saturday night, April 3, starting at 9 p.m. at Aldo’s in Juniata. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Jeff Wallack Music Education Fund, which will provide scholarships for area music students. The benefit will feature performances from a number of area musicians, including members of Felix & the Hurricanes, Half Tempted, Flight 19, The Edge, I-Enemy, The Front and many more; there may be some reunion performances happening that night as well. Some of the organizers and musicians involved in the benefit will appear on the March 28 “Homegrown Rocker” program to discuss the show.

The band Threeway has added a fourth member, as former Emily’s Toybox and Something Fluid member Matt Kyle has joined to play keys, guitar and bass. Threeway’s next local show happens March 27 at a Coalport venue.
