Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the March 28 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to our guests on our latest program: Troy Earnest, Jody Earnest (I-Enemy), Bob Watters (Felix & the Hurricanes) and John Scarfone. All four musicians were here to discuss the 6th annual Jeff Wallack Memorial Jam, happening on Saturday night, April 3 at Aldo’s in Altoona. The show will pay homage to Jeff, a gifted and popular Altoona guitarist who unexpectedly passed away on April 2, 2005; proceeds from the night will benefit the Jeff Wallack Music Education Fund, which will help pay for instruments and music lessons for area youth who can’t afford them. (For more information on the benefit, check out the ad in this month’s Pennsylvania Musician Magazine, or visit the Facebook page about the benefit.) We discussed details of the benefit, plus shared memories and stories about Jeff Wallack, and featured several examples of music he helped to create – including two songs by Jeff and Rapid Fire recorded live in May, 1986 at Cisco’s in Altoona during the “Seven Sundays of Rock” competition, and two previously unheard guitar jams Jeff leisurely recorded. As all four of our guests were members of Altoona late ‘80s/early ‘90s heavy metal quintet Fatal Maim, we dug out a 1990 song by that group for a “Local Music Flashback,” as we announced a Fatal Maim reunion as part of the Jeff Wallack Memorial Jam! Along the way, we debuted new songs from Top Dead Center and Stacey Dee, updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed Lotus Hill’s A New Sun CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

FLIGHT 19 – “Hands”
INSIDE OUT – “Inside Of Me”
RAPID FIRE – “Black Star” (performed live 5/86 at Cisco’s, Altoona)
TOP DEAD CENTER – “Breadline”
FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Slug in a Puddle”
SPIRIT LOST – “Dreams”
JEFF WALLACK – (untitled jam)

HOUR TWO:

CLINT CAROTHERS & FRIENDS – “Marseilles”
RIOT ACT – “In My Soul”
LOTUS HILL – “The Way She Walks”
JEFF WALLACK AND FRIENDS – (untitled jam)
FATAL MAIM – “Fat Chance” (1990, Local Music Flashback)
RAPID FIRE – “Doctor, Doctor” (performed live 5/86 at Cisco’s, Altoona)
NITEKAST – “Cold Fusion”
STACEY DEE – “Hero”

On our next program, we salute the show’s new audience on Rocky 99 by designating April 4 as the “All Johnstown Radio” Special! During the show’s two hours, every band and artist will originate or have a tie to the Rocky 99 listening area; meaning lots of bands and artists from Johnstown, Somerset, Indiana, Ebensburg and more! As part of “All Johnstown Radio,” we’ll review Top Dead Center’s 40 Down CD in the “Professor’s CD Corner” (they’re based in Ebensburg), and feature a “Local Music Flashback” from the Rocky 99 listening area as well. We’ll also update Local Music News. It’s “All Johnstown Radio” on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

APR. 11 – RICH “ALL HEART” EDMUNDSON
APR. 18 – WAYSTED SYLENCE
APR. 25 – THE ELDER STATESMEN OF LOCAL MUSIC SPECIAL
MAY 2 – THE SUNFLOWER SPECTACLE
MAY 9 – NITEKAST
MAY 30 – MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL

In Local Music News…

Williamsburg metal foursome Voice Of Chaos has gone their separate ways after only a few months together. Bassist and lead singer Scott Bush has taken over bass duties in Naildriver.

Altoona-based classic and southern rockers One Brick Shy have changed drummers, and should be re-emerging on stages soon.

Indiana and Cambria County power trio Rapid Fire are seeking a new guitar player to replace Buck Parsley, who is leaving the band due to health reasons.

And Spirit Lost is seeking a new lead singer to take over the microphone from current singer Austin Tepsic, who will remain in the group to play guitar.
