Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the May 9 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

Thanks to Brandon Scalese and Lily Taylor of northern Cambria County rock foursome Nitekast (www.nitekast.com) for a fun and entertaining two hours! (Thanks also to Chris Peters and The Underground Television for use of their studio facility for this week’s interview.) We learned the latest Nitekast happenings, and heard songs from their latest 6-song recording, Cold Fusion. Brandon brought a guitar along, and he and Lily performed two tunes live! Along the way, we debuted new songs from The Panic Switch, Joy Ike, Candlelight Red and Supercharged Suicide; we updated “Local Music News,” reviewed Ruder Than You’s Creation Sounds CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner,” and dug out a 1996 song curio by Gerry Stanek and the Ribeye Bros. for a “Local Music Flashback.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

ACALASIA – “Paint These Smiles On”
RAIN MUST FALL – “Superficial Stain”
NITEKAST – “Cold Fusion”
THE PANIC SWITCH – “Here Comes the Rain Again”
NITEKAST – “Escape Velocity” (performed live on the air)
JOY IKE – “Unconditional”
NITEKAST – “Now I Have to Go”
CANDLELIGHT RED – “Closer”

HOUR TWO:

DUBMISSIVE – “Rebel Song”
CODORUS CRUISE LINE – “Life I Choose”
NITEKAST – “Who Are You”
RUDER THAN YOU – “Give the People What They Need”
NITEKAST – “Underneath It All” (performed live on the air)
GERRY STANEK & THE RIBEYE BROS. – “First Time” (1996, Local Music Flashback)
NITEKAST – “Let It Go”
AFTER THE FALL – “Blame”
SUPERCHARGED SUICIDE – “Daddy’s Trunk”
SKELL – “Slo Mo”

On our next program, we’ll take the opportunity to get caught up on new local and regional recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We’ll also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” re-introduce our new “Across State Lines” feature, and review Royal Benson’s (long)Drive CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” It will be maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night at 8 PM!

Forthcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 23 – MYCENEA WORLEY
MAY 30 – MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL

JUNE 13 – “DAY OF ROCK” BENEFIT PREVIEW

In Local Music News…

Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band, Mysterytrain, Full Kilt, Your Dad’s Friends, the Mark DeRose Duo and a reunion of the U.S. Sound Theatre are some of the musical entertainers performing at next weekend’s 42nd annual Blair County Arts Festival at Penn State Altoona. The Festival runs from noon to 8 PM on Saturday, and noon to 6 PM on Sunday. Other musical entertainers taking part in this year’s Festival include R2B2, the new local combo featuring Rick Wertz, Ric Criste, Bill Smith and Beau Saller; also folk performers Dan Hulse and Jay Smar, singing duo Sam and Rach, percussionist Kanit, and the finalists of the Festival’s second annual Pop Songwriting Contest sponsored by Data Music Services. Admission to the Festival is free, and donations will be accepted for parking.

A fourth band has been added to this Friday night’s “I Hate Cancer” benefit concert for Chris Young. Sunset Strip will join the bands Hello Vixen, Giants Of Science and Without Warning on the bill, taking place Friday night beginning at 8 PM at Yesterday’s Party in Ebensburg. Proceeds will help out Chris, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Donation at the door will be $7.

Area drummers now have a place on the internet to share information and network. The Central Pennsylvania Drummers Association has started a Facebook page, and invites area drummers to visit to network, share information and techniques, and organize drumming get-togethers.
