Any of my fellow drummers here ever blown out the reso head on your snare? I'm coping with my second one in three months. Wondering if perhaps my drum doesn't release enough air through the vent at stick impact... Thoughts?? _________________ Dood... |

That's what I use, the Evans Genera ST Dry. I think the problem may be that the drum only has one vent hole in it. And no, drilling the shell is not an option. _________________ Dood... |

Thinking out loud...It could be breaking at the snare wires because there is no give in the wires. Could the wires be too tight?
I doubt it's because there isn't enough air escaping. A famous snare and drum builder (who's name I can't think of right now) uses NO vents in his snare drums.
Solution two...don't hit it so hard...LOL just kidding
Evans makes a heavier snare side reso that is 5 mils thick, 2 mils thicker than standard 3 mils reso.

If that doesn't work a remo diplomat clear is 7.5 mils.
Let us know how it works out... _________________ www.showtimesoundllc.com

Bill,
I did cut down on the tension of the snare wires, think that may have done it. 4 shows without a busted head. I did try a thicker reso but the sound was unacceptable. _________________ Dood... |
